What's On The Plates Sunday April 6 - Saturday April 12 2025

Putting another ball of pizza dough to use tonight. Mushroom and Fontina with a garlic pizza sauce. We'll have a salad too. Just making 1 pizza this time! Still have one more ball of dough to use another day.

I fell out of the habit of making pizza...then, we stopped at a new-to-us pizza place and noticed the sign out front bragging about the deal of the day: 1 Medium, 3 topping pizza with 2 sodas...$43! We had burgers next door instead and I got out my pizza recipe file!

We had chicken for lunch, so I decided to forego making wings for dinner. Instead, we'll have one of DH's favorite meals...hamburger steak with mashed taters and gravy and then broiled "squish" (two kinds of squash). I've got the "steaks" made and keeping cool in the fridge. The gravy will be onion and I've got them doing the caramelize thing on the cooktop now. Made some artisan bread a couple of days back, so I'll grab a couple of slices from that too. Whew, I'm tired just writing about it! :ROFLMAO:

We were at Costco the other day and they were sampling burratta. Of course, it's a big container with about a dozen large balls, and of course we bought it. It has a use-by date of next week, and since it's fresh milk, I figured I should try to pay attention to that. But what the heck am I going to do with all that burratta for the 2 of us???

They get you when you're hungry, then you buy large quantities of stuff that you will never use. Once you get it home and you actually eat more than just a bite, you find that it wasn't as good as it was in the store. I trash a lot of those super-buy specials.

By the way, I also didn't want to cook (again). So I scrounged the kitchen for a no-cook dinner.

I found 2 jars of Rao's spaghetti sauce in the pantry (thanks again Costco). (This is the worst jarred sauce i've ever had. It's soooo watery. I tried to cook it down some to reduce the water, but that didn't help. Just don't buy it). I have some braised short rib and red wine ravioli (Costco). Those are easier - just freze and take out what you need.I had the big container of burratta, and a bag of FRESH spinach in the fridge.

A smear of hot spaghetti sauce, topped with 3 of the ravioli, then some barely wilted spinach, and crowned with the burratta. It was pretty good. I thought about a drizzle of balsamic, but I was afraid it would overpower.

A no-cook dinner courtesy of Costco. The wine pairing was a Barolo that made #9 on Wine Spectator's list of the top 100 for 2024.

Beautiful, Kathy!

I had a delicious salad in a Gloucester restaurant that consisted of 2 tomato slices (I would get heirloom) topped with burrata balls. One was topped with a sauce of sundried tomatoes, the other was topped with basil pesto. I LOVED it! Even more than my fish and chips!

DH was pleased. First time I made this gravy. It was a bit time consuming, but DH loved it.

Nothing fancy, but the meatballs and noodles are pretty good.
Canned green beans, which I like sometimes.

Have you ever had Ikea meatballs? If so, how do these compare? Our last Boston Market closed a while back, but we still have Ikea in Tampa.

BTW, if you ever have the urge to make them from scratch, the ATK recipe is out of this world. Of course, it's an inordinate amount of work.
