Rants and Raves thread

I have a rave, I want to share an accomplishment with you.

As many of you know, I sell, service and install computers, you may not know that I also do the same for phone systems and do low voltage (computer and telephone) building cabling.

In the past I have gotten the contract to do an entire small office. Go in when it was being built out, install the cable, phone system, computers and applications. It is kind of neat when it is all complete before people move in to see it.

Recently, I got to go a step further. I was in touch with an Attorney who was about to start his own law firm. He had been looking for space and not been able to close a deal. I put him in contact with another customer that had some space available and they came to a deal. I then got to do much of the selection of the applications to be used, as well as, supplying the phone and computers. I have never been in on an installation that early on before.

Right now the firm is small and I am hopeful of having a long term relationship as the firm grows.

It just felt neat and I thought I would share.

Andy

Congrats Andy, that is AWESOME!!!!! I hope they grow also, and you reap the benefits from taking good care of your customer. :thumb: :tiphat:

Good luck Andy. Hope it opens new ventures for you. In these times bright spots are rare.:thumb:

Now for a rant!!! Paid the damn school taxes today. $2300 and now they make you drive to a bank halfway across the damn county to pay them. We still have a tax collector but all she does is send the bill out. Less service, more inconvenience and expense and no choice about it. Should have been a public referendum to make a change like that.

I hear you about the more tax messes service. Here in Haledon, e have an expression. Haledon has to deny municipal services than they have services to offer.

In a week and a day I am a legal resident of California. They are already taxing me from both states. I can't even vote out here. That's not right. End rant. CARRY ON!

Dang. You should not have told them you are there.
I knew they are going broke but that is insane. If you are a legal resident why couldn't you vote if the election were while you are out there. Just have to do the paperwork.

God bless those Democrats:huh:

I've lived in California all my life you don't have to tell me about how screwed up is. I think they should divide California with a North and South state. There is definitely a geographical difference in the states when it comes to politics. I'm not go into a rant on politics. I will say the weather has been almost perfect here haven't seen a raindrop in months although I know it's coming probably after Halloween.

The way it work for folks working in another state for more than 30 days Temporary Duty Yearly (TDY) the company switches them to the new host state as soon as they leave for tax purposes. The home state is still taxing me because I will have to pay them too. It gets really complicated after that so I will keep it short. The last thing I found was the company would only pay my per diem not taxes on that. So I called the hotel to make sure I wasn't losing money on the trip. The hotel told me I would not have have to pay taxes on my room since when I stay in this state for more than 30 days I become a legal resident of that state. In the end my company will give me 200 dollars to help me pay for taxes.

I will push to see if I can vote here. Just because I would love to see the other side of the ticket.

That is a real break not having to pay the hotel tax. Many times that adds $10 or more a day to the room.
....Really Andy, taxing them for leaving. crazy. So now when Lefty gets done he might get another tax for leaving the state since he is now a legal resident.

Rave!!

I think that I posted here, About two months ago, I went to an endocrinologist to get my thyroid prescription renewed. After looking at my blood work, he told me that I have type II diabetes. He further explained that determination is made by a number (A1C). I was something like .2 over. I wanted an instant replay, but, the refs were on lockout LOL.

Anyway, he put me on Metformin and we made a deal. If I loose 40#, I will not have to take Metformin. As of yesterday's jump on the scale, I have lost 39# and I still have a week or so before I see him.

And I always thought Metofrmin was spring training in Florida.

That's great Adillo.

We are doing a refi and I am so fed up with Quicken Loan. Trust me. They are not quick. Everything is done by computer. I had to send documents at least twice and sometimes three times. I told them that I had sent the requested info. Gee Whizz! They looked and found the documents. When we complained we were told that there were things beyond their control. The proper routing of documents is under their control.

Woo Hoo - Only 1 more to go and plenty of time to do it :blob_blue:. There's nothing like a little incentive.

GREAT job Andy!!

My last 3 A1C results have been 5.9. Which has made me feel good.

I still want video replay of my A1C. I am calling LOL. I didn't get Chance to study for it.

Anyway I am hoping for better this time.

You go Peeps. Good work.

Kids banging on the door on a Sunday morning (8am) selling the fundraiser stuff for school.
Makes ya wonder if the parents knew they were up and out at that hour rousing neighbours from their slumber.

shaysh!

that is in very bad form. I suspect neither you nor anyone else they intruded on that early in the morning bought whatever they were peddling. They need to learn a lesson about the appropriate time to go door to door selling / pushing products in support of their school.

that was rude of them.
we sold items from sarris' candy; raised $$ fer kiddos @ St. Jude- that kinda stuff- @ normal hours. 3:30-4:30-ish.

Didn't think ANYONE allowed door to door sales any more. It isn't allowed in my town.
Wish it wasn't here either!
I am thinking there may be some differences in the places we live, Peeps.
This is a very small town.
Having said that, I'd never allowed my kids go out at that time of day, knocking on doors.
Jeff and Ty both had paper routes when they were young, but I took them around to deliver the weekend papers.

Rave - So far - On track!!

I posted here about my last Dr. Visit. Today was the followup. I have lost 40# in three months, A1C is 5.5 and cholesterol is 110 (The blood work flagged it as low). My BP was down about 15 points.

My goal is another 25# away. Dr. approves of my goal, made a couple dietary suggestions, generally very happy.

He did want to take away me "secret weapon", I was able to talk him out of it for now, he did cut it back a little.

I feel better, sleep better, and have more energy. Gotta bear down, I can't blow it now.

OMG!!!!!! Do I ever miss good food though.

care to share your secret weapon

Yes, I will. I did not post it as it is not something that is available in the Mainstream.

I have an under active Thyroid and have been taking synthetic hormone for as long as I can remember. I found out that I have diabetes when I was sent to an endocrinologist as my hormone tested too low again.

He was reluctant to up the dosage, however, when my sugar tested too high (A1C something like 6.6 if I recall correctly). he looked at my dosage (225 Micro Grams) and found that I was taking a 200 and a 25. He didn't like that as he thought that it would absorb too slowly. He changed me to two 125's. He had offered a lap band, but, I am vehemently opposed to it and told him that I would stop eating before I would do the lap band. He then changed me to two 125's which would be the correct dose for my reduced Thyroid hormone anyway.

This time he said that since I have lost the weight, I now need less thyroid hormone and we talked about cutting the dose. He is very happy about my progress and we compromised. I am still getting the two 125's, but, skipping the meds all together once a week. There is a danger of going too "hot" with the Synthroid, so I have to look out for symptoms.

My diet is simple and works for me. I eat a serving of Chobani Yogurt for Breakfast. Lunch, if I have it is a green salad with a little chicken in it. Ala NYC deli custom salad bar. Dinner is a moderate meal. Last night two chicken thighs and steamed veggies. Some nights a bit more. Through the summer we would have one or two Coors lights on the patio.

For snacks, I eat celery, radishes, fruits and dill pickles (Which I really like). He is not fond of the pickles due to sodium. So, I will try other avenues.

On general weight loss, it is a head trip. The first two weeks are the toughest and usually the killers. I just focus on the hunger and tell myself that it is good. I drink diet iced tea and diet soda and the aforementioned snack food.

I feel that dieting is an uncomfortable process that is absolutely no fun at all and just has to be endured. After two weeks the hunger subsides and is actually pretty easy to control. The trick is to plan out the maintenance. It is a completely different mind set from the diet itself. What can work here is to deny yourself nothing, just do it in moderation. We will all binge out, it is easier in the long run to "pay the piper" a few pounds right away than lots of pounds later.

Anyway, that is my philosophy on the whole thing.

Hope this helps. As I said, it is neither fun, automatic or enjoyable in any way.

In retrospect - the doctor did not initially raise my thyroid over what the blood work called for, so maybe some of it is / was psychosomatic. Then, of course, having my body seeing the various hormones in the right amounts leaves it more free to work in loosing weight.

>> I would stop eating before I would do the lap band.

a thousand years ago, DW started into the "post baby" weigh gain issues.

not complicated by "other" conditions, however . . .

DD (Dear Doctor) bluntly advised: the best exercise is pushing yourself away from the table.

so....years gone on . . . diet this, diet that, Weight Watchers, etc., DW got the situation under control. all else aside, she's found pushing away from the table to be exceedingly sound and workable advice.

yes, she leaves "hungry" - but she's found living with hunger pangs easier than masny alternatives.

bottom line: good work not only for handling the weight issue but even more so for handling the "side issues."

Congrats Andy. That is wonderful news.
I'm going to try a version of your diet plan (meal wise) and see if it helps get me off the plateau that I've been stuck on for way to long.

I'm glad that you found something that works without the lap band...scary . If I had to do it, I'd do something like what you're doing--portion control, watching what you eat, and moderation in the things you just love. I had to cut down on salt, and now I find that normally salted foods are just too salty now.
