What are you doing today?

She's home! Heavily medicated, so still doing well. They warned her that the pain WILL come.
For me, I find distraction is the very best medicine. That and my puppies...

We're heading to Long Beach, WA. There's an RV park there that we enjoy. It is just a short, sandy trail away from the water. At certain times of the year there are Bald Eagles there. Probably not at this time of year, but it is beautiful all the same. :D
We like to avoid the main drag, so we take the back roads. Spotted this today. So dang cute! I want one!

Is she taking the oxy and tramadol near the same time? That's a big NO.
And after eating?
Some of that isn't supposed to be taken on an empty stomach.
Nope. I went through it all with the nurse this morning when she came to the house. I was worried that there was too much. We highlighted all the things that need to be spaced apart and talked about food. They are all proscribed by the same 2 doctors, (her pcp and her surgeon) so I trust that they are reviewing the situation.

I haven’t given her any tramadol. That’s our last resort med. and I only cut the tizanidine in half. A whole one was too much. They told us days 3&4 are the worst, and I may need to give her the max of everything, but other than that, I’m going for the minimalist approach (except for the antibiotics).

It’s still a LOT of drugs!

Is she on a CPM machine?

Yes, they delivered a cpm machine today. She didn’t like it. The guy who delivered it couldn’t answer any questions, just his prepared presentation. Said 1 hour 3 times a day. Three hours a day on that machine seems like a lot.

But the written discharge instructions we have said the first 2 weeks just concentrate on extension. After that, we’d work on flex.

So we decided not to use the machine today. The PT is coming at 9 am tomorrow morning, and I decided to wait and ask her about it.

They also delivered an icing machine. Now that one makes sense. It encases the entire knee in chill. An ice pack only sits in one spot at a time.

PT is the way to go, as in getting UP for mobility.
None of my patients have used a CPM since way back in 2010 or along that time frame.
My Mother was in the facility where I was back then and begged the therapy department not to make her go on that thing again. Bob- head of therapy said no problem!
She was up and walking and doing exercises bedside.
That's normally how it's done now.
Up and walking around right after.

Earlier in the week, my friend’s husband came over and helped me lift the furniture to remove and roll up all the area rugs. Coffee table gone. All obstructions moved. Shower seat, commode, walker, ice machine, etc all delivered and ready for her. My formerly lovely living room now looks barren!

A funny story. Several days before we had to do a washing/scrubbing ritual with antiseptic soap. Last night before, scrub down, clean sheets, etc, to be ready for the final shower in the am. So all clean and disinfected the night before, Judy climbs in to bed WITH HER DOGS! I told her doctor, and he just rolled his eyes and smiled.

Sharon, those aren't used that much now because scheduled PT is much better.
I've not seen one used in any facility I've worked for in years.
I had a knee transplant 20 years ago. They told me I might have to comeback in 12 years, I guess the surgeon didn't know how good he was. Also I liked the CPM Machine. I could do it at home at my own pace. Tell Judy, she is going to be so happy after she heasl. It totally changed my life for the good.

Hoping to get the RV back from service. We took it in late yesterday so they could start early today for the annual service. We were lucky to find this company, a few years back. The couple that own it are great, as are the employees too. They started the company about 20 years ago. At a point where their kids were grown and off on their own, they decided to do something for themselves. They started the business and spend time together too. Very cute. But what's even better is they are good at what they do and honest too. Local shops that need to outsource choose them! Anyway, when we get it back, we'll start planning a new trip!

Right before I left work this morning, other staff members were coming in.
They said there were sirens and police vehicles leaving town toward US24, that traffic was backed up in both directions and that it seemed like a bad situation going down.
It turns out there was a high speed chase that began outside of a town near here and ended here in Napoleon.
In the end, police officers tried to quell the situation to no avail.

The man in the car turned a gun on himself.
Ty was texting me the entire time and said he heard on his truck cb radio that an ambulance was dispatched- then the coroner was on the way.

What a horrible start for the day.

Such a dangerous and sad situation for all 😥
