What are you doing today?

That's horrible. I bet Tina was so upset with herself. On the brighter side, I bet she won't do that again. I hate those jetted tubs too. :idea:You can come rip mine out when you rip yours.
Yeah! she was mad....

I just thank God it wasn't me.

Luckilly it was just clean water.. Can you imagine if it was sewage.

Tina was screaming so loud, I thought she got bit with a alligator or something.
And there I am saying...it;s only water; it'll dry.

Today I cut the grass front and back...weed whacked with the trimmer, and blew all the debris away....and as I wrapped it up, there were sprinkles of rain.
Whew....just in time.

Not so much today, but over the weekend, I had a bunch of fun.

My 38" Tanned Diamondback Rattlesnake Skin arrived.

I finished my mini Hourglass. This puppy is about 8" high and 4 1/2" across. The top. bottom and spindles are all hand turned. The wood is mahogany. The timer is a 3 minute "Newton Gravity" timer. As you can see the glass tube is filled with yellow liquid and the miniature timer is inside. When you flip it the timer floats to the top and the sand starts to run.

Late Sunday afternoon while I was coming home from the grocery store, I caught this snap of the local VFW post. It seems like the flag is watching over it.

I hope you all had a great weekend as well.

Andy

You do beautiful wood work. I love the hour glass timer.

There has got to be a story behind that snake skin. Did you kill it, and what are you going to do with it?

Thank you for the compliment on the timer, I really like that one.

I make a lot of things besides timers. Here is a pic of my show table.

As you can see one of the things I make is pens. A friend have me a pen blank with a prarrie rattlesnake skin in it. A blank, is a piece of the skin mounted on a brass tube encased in acrylic. Here is a pic of the pen.

I want to see if I can a) Learn to cast the blanks and b) make a few sellable pens. I found the snakeskin on eBay. Now that I have it, I am faltering. It would look nice mounted or maybe take a piece out of the middle and have a belt buckle made and use the rest for blanks.

Andy - You're much more than a craftsman - you're an artisan! Your wood work is simply wonderful - the boards, especially, are beautiful. You ought to consider making not only a belt out of your snake skin but perhaps a pair of loafers, as well. Very European - Italian, actually. What became of the rattles, by the way? Did they come with it? I guess some people keep them as keepsakes of their "hunt" when they get a big one like that.

Thank you Ian.

The ratttles are still on the skin.

The belt buckle is a possibility, one of the crafters i show with is a Leathersmith, there's not enough to make slippers for my size 13's. The challenge of casting the blanks intrigues me. I have casting medium, butt, it is so much like other things on the shop i have not tried it yet. The skin is not smooth and i do not yet know the viscosity of the acrylic medium.

You could do a hat band with the snake skin (think cowboy hat ) and leave the rattle on it. That would sell quickly around here. You'd probably still have enough left to do your pens too.

That could work Cooksie. Most of the shows that I do are juried and I have to demonstrate that the products are my work. Since I would have not made the hat, I couldn't do that.

Commercially speaking, the return on investment is very good if I make pens. The belt buckle would be a great fantasy. I have one show next weekend and a three day show the weekend after that. As soon as I get a break, I am going to play with some resin and see what i can do. That will make the decision for me.

Today is weed whacker and spray a vinegar mix on the fence line day. Dang stuff has jumped up in the past week and my hot fence around the bee yard ain't hitting anymore. I need to keep the bear out of my hives.

goin' to a bar. gettin' a few drafts. makin' food, so i can then continue to spring clean. sigh- i'm considering hiring a cleaning lady to clean 4 me. or dialing my Mom. she luvs to clean.

Welcome to NCT, brothjoke!

Everyone must be busy lately as it's getting a little slow on here. I've been working on a sewing project, very close to being finito :blob_blue:.

I need to go by Academy and buy some rubber boots. I've got some weed eating to do in the yard, but last time I ran across a snake...shiver...and am not returning in just tennys. I dropped my weed eater and ran, had to do some heavy duty convincing to get myself to just go back and pick up the weed eater.

fests. i have won so many items. i won a panini press fer $0.50. my brother may well get that 1.

Cleaning the house.

Just cleaned the kitchen. Sweep & mop the floor tomorrow. On to the living room.

My 2 grand nephews left it a mess, but they are not going to treat it that way next year when they come back!!

It only took me a month to get down there, but I finally got a pair of rubbers :D. They're snazzy little things, okay not little but still snazzy. Posed and ready for action:

I have a feeling they're going to be pretty hot, but I'll take hot over a snake bite any day. We have rat snakes, among other varieties, around here. I read, don't know for sure if it's true or not, that they don't just strike, release, and pull back. They strike and gnaw .

Cooksie - you are not the only human with a fear of snakes (g)

however, snakes are ambush / stealth predators - they don't want to be seen - they want to be hidden/invisible until they strike. so if you make enough noise / vibration as you're moving along, the snakes will be most happy slithering rapidly away - you're way too big to eat.

all that wonderful stuff said.....I've got a gigantic toad living in my vegetable garden. they eat bugs - so he's welcome there. but, whenever he jumps out from under something while I'm looking for red tomatoes, it takes my heart rate a couple days to get back to normal.

Have to take the Prius to the body shop this morning. Will go to the cancer center since I will be halfway there and need to pick up a rubber strap for my grass catcher that broke while mowing yesterday. Have to stop at Sherwin Williams and get the other gallon of stain they ran out of. Need to finish mowing before the big rain tomorrow. Lots to do if I can take the heat and humidity.

I started today new training period in the center for caring the elderly people. After the first shift I am just tired.

:goodnight_smi:

I'm getting ready to have some work done on my bathroom. I'm probably going to have nightmares about bath tubs tonight. They all seem to be too pricey, too short in the basin length, too big to fit the area, drain placement wrong...:pat:

I'm working on a second batch of corn relish, using the Blue Ball recipe. The local sweet corn has been excellent this year.

Hopefully there will be some pictures later. I'm already tired but it's a labour of love.
