What are you doing today?

Watching the snow piling up. Burning a bunch of wood since she has seeds started in the greenhouses. Will need to plow by the morning and then head for blood tests and scripts.:yuk:

Beautiful kitchen, Cooksie. I install tile as part of my handyman business, and a lot of customers say the same thing..."I could do that, except for the cutting and fitting all the small pieces...and laying it out so both sides come out equal." :whistling: As they say, the devil is in the details...and the $750 tile saw.:D

Today was baking day for me to get ready for Easter, and I made and delivered a Babka to a Polish friend who is a disabled Vietnam Vet with major health issues from agent orange. Us vets stick together, and he was thrilled to get a Babka for Easter to share with his family. His Mom is 92 and is in a nursing home, and is unable to bake anymore, so he was pleased that he will be able to bring the bread to her on Easter Sunday. I made a whole one for him, and a mini for myself to have a taste.

As luck would have it, the Cinnamon Swirl and Old Fashion White breads just came out of the oven.

Yep, the devil is in the details and most people don't have the patience to pull it off. I used to do a lot of the home repairs etc but now that I'm older I tend to hire someone to do it for me.

P. S. That Babka looks a lot like the Stolen that I make.

Thanks, Joe :)

I've started many projects and then had to cry uncle and call in the pros. I've sorta learned my limits.

I am going to pick DD up from work then I will be prepping for tomorrow. I will be baking a Pizzagaina (Easter Meat Pie) from my Mom's recipe and a cheesecake later for tomorrow.

Not much. For some reason my blood pressure is really low today like 89/57. I don't feel like lifting a finger. Good thing that there is nothing that I have to do for tomorrow.

Today I've been looking around and reading reviews for the Scotts Snap Spreader. The company that has been doing the fertilization/insect/weed control for my lawn has severely pizzed me off.

Some of the things I've just kind of overlooked, but the last one was it for me. After it snowed, they came and put on two treatments at one time, a pre-winterizer and a winterizer, and charged me double. Also, when they first started, the treatments were quarterly (about $65 each) and my yard always looked good. Now their system is to treat approximately every 5 or 6 weeks...cha-ching. It's just gotten ridiculous.

I'm just going to do it myself from now on...I think :).

buy a broadcast spreader; ditch the "services" (aka rip-offs)
don't even think about a cutie "snap spreader" - my guess is in 2-3 years it'll be obsolete and you'll be back to buying a bag of something.

lawn care is not a rocketry science.

today - with a 0.75 acre lot - took me about 30 minutes to apply a double dose of pelletized limestone to my acid soil areas and a spring fertilizer to the 'whole' area.

Oh! I gotta get going. We too fired the "Treatment People". The grass folks said the weeds would be gone, they're not. The Tree folks said our trees would thrive, they killed two including a large flowering magnolia in the front lawn.

Lime Huh? Spring treatment already. OK I'm on it this weekend.

I think you're right, Chowderman. That would be a foolish purchase for me. Some of the reviews pointed out that it would probably become obsolete. I was just looking for something easy so that I wouldn't have to learn how to set the spreading ratios, etc. I'm going to go with the broadcast spreader and resort to reading the directions , which I'm not known for.

I'd really be pizzed about the trees, Adillo. That's gotta be tough, knowing you paid to have someone come in and kill your trees .

Projects for the past week ~ I need to quit watching so much HGTV :pat:

Painted a picture frame - from bright gold to oil rubbed bronze:

Started a painting project in the garage storage area. This one is going to take a while:

And, I bought a spreader yesterday. I think everybody and their dog was at Lowe's yesterday. Little excitement - cat fight in the parking lot over a minor fender bender. They made real fools of themselves and drew quite a hefty little crowd .

Been working in the garden and put up some fence to let the chickens run in the orchard area and not in the garden. They were having a ball yesterday scratching and picking in the area where I tilled up the manure and ashes. Today they are fenced out and not happy as I scattered more manure and tilled it again. Then I took the walk behind tiller and did along the fences and will do the strawberry bed tomorrow. Mr shoulders are done for the day. I want the peas and onions as well as the strawberries and raspberries all planted before the rainy days come back.

Trying to stay on the ground. We have a high wind advisery in effect. Winds are up to 80 MPH in places. The wind speed monitors in the canyons are registering up to over 100MPH.

Same thing I do every day. I build virtual models for games.
I'm also doing a little more unpacking from moving last week. Maybe it's been two week, now. I can't remember anything anymore. LOL

grocery shoppin' list to be made. appointment i hafta call 'bout. further spring cleaning. takin' a venture somewhere nearby. putting a menu together. & now i shall snooze. 'nite/mornin'. have sweeeet daze, guys.

The winds are still blowing and we have a fire up near Filmore. It's going to take a while to get that under control.

Today I'm just doing normal housework. Later I'll play with my bromeliad plants.

I said "To hell with everything else," and I went fishing for the first time in a long time. I caught (and released) a nice hen steelhead trout, and a couple of big suckers. They went back as well.

Reminds me of the times I went High Sierra fishing with Dad. Would love to have a high mountain trout on my plate about now. They don't get very big because the streams are glacier or snow fed but boy are they tasty.

Planted my garden today. A variety of tomatoes, red, yellow and green bell peppers, green and waxed beans, spring onions, radishes, some more strawberries (to replace the ones that the cats dug up ), chives, basil and flat leaf parsley. The rosemary, thyme, oregano and sage made it fine through the winter. Home Depot had 4 and 5 inch veggie and herb plants 5 for $10. Seeds were buy one get one free . I also baked a strawberry pie and a mixed berry cobbler.

I love it Rick. I started a raised bed garden a few years ago and it is definitely the way to go if you just want a small garden. So easy to take care of.

Today I have a ton of laundry to do. Bread to make. A Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake to make and fix DH some dinner to have when he gets home before I go to DD's house. The bread is rising now and the first load of laundry is started.

If the darn winds stop blowing I'll be planting more in my garden today. I too have laundry to do plus it's time to clean out the refrigerator. Tonight it's leftovers.

went grocery shoppin' & then took a stroll fer a few blocks. got 1 of those basil plants they sell @ the grocery. now i hafta find my potting soil (& get an old plant yanked from its pot). hafta also find the other planting stuff i put away awhile ago. went & got an adult beverage after shopping.

then i'll cook dinner @ 1 point, too.

I hope the winds die down for you Leni. I know you want to get your garden planted.

I'll be staying inside for the most part today. Pollen count 8024. 1500 is considered extremely high...I don't know what category that would put 8024 in . My eyes are burning and I'm feeling congested. I've got to go to the store this morning and pick up a few things. Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for this afternoon. Some stuff could be bad with high winds and possible tornadoes. I sure will be happy to see the rain...just wish we could forgo the bad stuff. Gonna bake some more bread today.

Spring cleaning.

Have to throw away a lot of junk and stuff that I no longer need or use. :eating2:

Didn't do a whole lot today. Got some bad high pulse rates for some reason so I laid down and napped this afternoon for a bit. Don't worry about it till it gets close to the pacemaker threshold. Don't want to get nailed by choice especially out in the rain.:D

my day was dragging myself from the couch, then church. then i got dinner put together. blake was gonna visit, tho got mandated @ work. the roving apron dinner is gonna hafta wait another day.

Woke up 7:30 after going to bed at 3:30 AM...
Only 4 hrs. sleep felt cranky.
I made honey wheat pancakes... Don't like the honey taste with syrup.

A little pain today..the knees and the stitches from the last surgery were pulling. Probably the rainy weather today?

I did fix Tina's key beeper Remote for the car. A few bolts and washers, and it was all done.

Tina went up to the church to a tricky tray this evening, and she just called me; the first number called...she won some kind of cooking utinsel set. hahahahaha...Like we need more of them!!?? ...

I want to make a pineapple upside down cake from scratch. I got a great recipe from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette last night that I would love to try.
I love pineapple cake.
It all depends if we have pineapple rings. ???

While in the process of creating my infamous Waffles Plus recipe, I discovered that adding any sweetener to the batter was completely unnecessary if you plan to add any type of sweet topping on the finished waffle.
They just turn out to be too sickeningly sweet if you do.

Food for thought for next time...

:-)
