I did a little kitchen cleanup, ran the dishwasher, did laundry, went to the commissary, Class VI store, pawn shop, gun store, hardware store and now home.

Closed up at work, officially "on vacation", 8 weeks off, 6 paid. . . I just wish it was for something Fun, and back to my global galavanting, but this one is going to be spent in the hospital. . .which, will hopefully, lead me back to more FUN things in the NEXT va-cay. Friday starts the process. . . so nervous, but, it's got to be done.

Good luck with that Ralph.

I recently spent 6 days in the hospital and don't envy you.

Thanks, Johnny!

never the most fun place to be, but what can ya do? I have my Tablet, some books, and honestly, I know I will be getting some of the top notch medical grade meds, so the first few days shouldn't be too bad. I worry more about going stir crazy, but fell I have the proper tools in place to avoid that. Not the most ideal vacation, but, it will lead to getting back to great trips, and a better quality of life in general, so the pros, out weigh the cons by about a million and six, to one!

Waiting for storms to move in.
Nervous about having a dinner date this evening.
Feel like a teenaged girl all over again! LOL

When I was in high school I worked produce in our local Red Owl.
Yesterday I called my old boss, Max, and they have no phone
so now am worried about them. They are in their late 70's.
Sometimes I wished I stayed in the grocery business. Life seemed
so much simpler then.

Yes, my old home town. I can get their address but not their phone number. I read the homer town paper every week - it's a weekly - and there's nothing on them there. They are life long residents and well known.

Those threatening storms went south.
Whew!

Background on my day--

It's been 6 years since I've actually gone out on an honest to goodness date with a man.
He's someone who is part of a construction crew who have been doing a massive renovation at the facility where I work.
For the last couple of months he's been stopping by and chatting with me on his way around the place- there is simply an attraction there.
He asked me for my number and said he'd like to call me sometime.
Sometime was this morning.
Dinner tonight. Woo hoo! LOL
--------------------
Later...
Joe is a very nice guy!
Of course I already knew that, but going out with him was certainly interesting.. and different.
When he'd called me this morning, it took me by surprise. I thought sometime meant "in the future."
He said "you have today off correct?" I said yes.
He said " are you going to be hungry for say, spaghetti and meatballs?"
I told him I was always hungry for spaghetti and meatballs lol
So we met at a place in Celina and had a very nice meal and talked a lot.

He is 51 years old, has a son in his 20s and a 3 y/o grandson and a daughter (19) who still lives at home with him.
He lost his wife to ovarian cancer 5 years ago, so we had much to talk about there, about losing a spouse.
He hails from Kalida which is very near here- owns horses and is active in his church - St. Michael's.
He drives an orange Hummer and has been farming just about all his life with his Dad and brothers too.

It was a nice time.
So glad I got to know him better.
He is gentle, quietly funny and very intelligent.
He asked me if we could go out again, and I said sure.. why not?
He kissed me on the hand before we parted and said "thank you for saying yes".

He told me I was somewhat different than what I am when I am not at work.
Geez, maybe it's because I am more relaxed.. or it could have been the Chianti.. :drink2::blush:

Sounds like you had a really good time Sass! That's wonderful...I'm so happy for you! An orange hummer?

He sounds very sweet. If you don't go for him i will tell my daughter about him. Just kiddng. She is 45 divorced and not been on a real date for as long as you:)

I am glad you had a good time. It is wonderful when you find someone with so much in common and can talk to.

Good on you, Sass....that fella sounds like a keeper. But the third date's the charm, so do it again! And as lucky as it all is for you, I'd say it's lucky for him, too.

Today DW and I went down to Fall River, MA to Battleship Cove to tour the USS Massachusetts (Battleship) the Joseph P. Kennedy (Destroyer) two PT boats which are not in the water but are kind of up on stilts in a large hanger-style buiilding and even a Russian Destroyer (Hiddensee) which now belongs to Czechoslovakia (don't think I didn't have to look up how to spell that name!) and is evidently on loan to Battleship Cove. That's an interesting ship and it seemed like all the ladders went straight down at 90 degrees but nothing came back up! That was a bit hard on Fallon at this point but she's a trooper and managed to make it all the way. Also berthed in the Cove is the USS Lionfish (Submarine) which you can't actually get inside of - I would have loved to see what it was like inside, though. All in all, an interesting trip and good tour. Fallon had made a huge picnic which we took along - and then never took time to eat while there. We brought it home and guess what we're having for supper tonight..................

One of the high points of the time spent at the Cove was a film re-enactment of December 7th at Pearl Harbor. What made it really exciting for all the kids there was that they have simulated live ammunition sunk into the small inlet between the ships and the shore and at certain points during the film water spouts erupt from the water looking like straffing fire from airplanes. Kind of neat and the kids sure loved it. The sound effects are stellar! That's pretty easy to have done, as Route 24 passes directly over that little inlet and the roar of traffic across the overpass has been put to good use. At the end of the film it segues into Roosevelt's "Day of Infamy" speech to Congress and the American people. Impressive.

Ian

Hi Ian!
I did do it again.. this morning!
He called me very early and wanted to know if I was going to Mass this morning, and if so.. could he come here and go with me.
Yes!
Then we had brunch at a local coffee house/diner that I love.
It was his first time being there (amazing)- and he liked it.
Almost lost track of time, then checked .. yow! I had to get home and get ready for work.
He's heading off for Florida in the morn for a week, and I shall miss him..Mr. Brown Eyes Mustachio Goatee:heart:

Your day in Fall River with Fallon sounds absolutely lovely!!
Sounds like the pair of you must have gone home and crashed.
Here's hoping you had a relaxing picnic, on the spot.. once you got home from that adventure.
FDR's Pearl Harbor address is one that holds a special place in history for sure...
IMO, one of the best kick-ass presidents to ever hold office.

Hey, Sass - Sure sounds like things are getting seriouser and seriouser with the gentleman with the mustachio and goatee! Good going, girl - and congratulations. People who attend church together often make the best matches, it seems.

Our day was a lot of fun in Fall River. We did, indeed, crash pretty early when we got home, especially Fallon. Climbing around in old sailing vessels isn't for the faint hearted nor for ladies who are six months pregnant. But she claims that Kieran enjoyed himself a great deal - and kept her up nearly all night. The picnic was a winner with one exception - we forgot to consider the fact that on a hot day, even ice in ice chests will eventually melt and Fallon hadn't wrapped the sandwiches too tightly before we left home. Somehow, soggy Italian subs leave something to be desired! But the dog enjoyed them and we made some more for us. Both the fruit salad and the macaroni salad were in tightly sealed plastic containers so no harm there. And trust me, Hostess seals their cake snacks pretty darn well because we had four cupcakes sitting on top of the sandwiches and they were floating in the ice water - but remained dry as a bone throughout. Lesson learned, however.

Ian
