What are you doing today?

I'm venturing into unknown territory for me. I've been reading about streaming music to my home stereo set-up. I decided to try the Audioengine music receiver. It's supposed to connect to an older stereo receiver/amplifier and allow a bluetooth connection to another device so that you can stream music to your home and use your existing speakers.

If I get it, and the sound is chitty, back it goes. I love music and won't be happy with lesser quality sound than what I have now. We'll see. It's sounds like it's pretty easy to connect and disconnect, which is good for a tech dummy like me :) and should be easy to return if I'm unhappy.

Went to sleep at 5:00 am..... after making waffle batter. Woke up at 11:00 and I guess it will be waffles for lunch!.... My wife is on my case to get out the Christmas lights and start decorating the front yard. ...... Sighhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
NO Spirit Yet! hahahahahaha

My wife is working night 12's so I'm quiet during the day. I did a few chores, shopped at Freds and spent a lot of time with twitter. This evening I had an eye appointment then went to Dave's for dinner. I still have a headache from the dilation.

Feel better JW with that headache. Rest your eyes!

I had my cataracts removed 2 months ago, and I see like in a tunnel. Brown and white flashes on my sides, and squiggly eyesight at times. That gives me a headache unless I close my eye's and rest them for like an hour. I can see sharper though. Still need glasses to see clearer.

Yes, I do hope that headache went away, John.

It's back to work for me today after a couple of days off.

It's going to be warm here for it being the end of November.
Near 60!

I got over the headache but slept fitfully, woke up, and was up till past 2. I think a BD nap is in order. I have no other plans for the day.

I came home to a surprise yesterday. My freezer had gone out and had been out for quite a while . Everything was still cool to the touch but no ice crystals at all. I lost about 15 lbs of ground beef, about 10-12 lbs of chicken, two steaks, some pork chops and baby back ribs, 2 bags of fish, a bag of shrimp, a box of crab cakes, 8 qts of homemade soup, and a bunch of other stuff.

So I got the silly thing all cleaned up and decided to plug it back in to see what would happen. I put it on coldest and put a milk jug of water in there. This morning the water was frozen solid, and the freezer seems to be working fine. I don't know what I'm going to do. It's probably 12 to 15 yrs old.

The worst part is that I just bought my first food vacuum sealer and sealed all of that meat. The good part is that all that vacuum sealed stuff was a breeze to throw out...no leaky mess or smell at all. The shrimp and fish, which were in re-sealable bags that they're sold in, were a totally different story...Peee Ewww.

If the freezer is a frost free one; meaning you don't have to manually defrost it, then don't assume it is ok yet. There is what is called a defrost cycle which is initiated every 12 hours by a timer, and through a defrost thermostat, and a defrost termination thermostat.
Defrost is done by electric heater coils affixed to the cooling coil.
So there are variables that can take a while to show up.

Stick a thermometer in the freezer bottom area. With the control set to coldest, after 12 hours, it should read at least -5F to -10F below zero.
Keep a check that it holds at those temperature ranges.

Be sure the condenser coil is not blocked with debris. It may need to be vacuumed out!
:tiphat: Good Luck!

Thanks! It is frost free. It's still working as of this morning. I've just about talked myself into trying to replace the thermostat. This guy makes it look easy, and the thermostats seem to be under $20.

I'll go do some reading on the defrost termination thermostat and timer. That sounds pretty complicated.

Thanks again

Editing after reading up - I've just shown my ignorance about all of this :). Here's what I think I'm going to do...replace the defrost thermostat and the timer. Both of those look relatively easy and the parts are pretty cheap. If that doesn't do it, then I'll just buy a new freezer. The cost of a compressor and service call would be about $300, and I can get a new one for about $450.

Jimmy - does this sound reasonable, or am I going about this all wrong?

Hopefully we'll go to the Tacoma Mall to shop - it will be a zoo, I'm sure. It's supposed to be a walking for exercise day.

Sounds reasonable if you can tackle it. Just so you know, the defrost timer on that age box, is a mechanical clock / contact / device. There is a knob that you can turn slowly till it clicks which will turn on the defrost of the coil ice as long as the conditions are right. That will be proved if you can hear the sizzle and dripping of water into the plastic pan that sits under the freezer.
Any idea what the temperature is in the freezer?

It was last day in work, now I have vacation for 4 weeks and then I need to looking for something else to do or study. From my workmates I got an orchid and as one of our patient got results from the hospital as she has an influenza, also a flu shoot.

The flower and the free flu shot - not bad gift.

Now I have a lot of time for knitting socks and baking for the Christmas.

No idea what the temp is. I have one of those little clip on jobs like you would clip to an ac vent to check air temp, but I can't find it. I've checked all the junk drawers. Ice in milk jug is still frozen solid.

I think the parts I need are on Amazon for about $27. You put in your model # and it tells you if the part works on your appliance. The defrost timer looks like this:

And the thermost looks like this:

Do those look right to you?

I've watched videos for installing both, and I'm pretty sure I can do this...I think I can...I think I can. If I find that I can't, at least I tried.

One more question, and I promise not to bug you any more :). Does it matter which device I install first?

Thanks again!

Enjoy your vacation, Saliha!
I worked today, the usual... second shift.
Not a bad day, just verrrrry busy!

That is a defrost timer, ok, and that and the defrost thermostat , can be installed in any order. Now, just so you know, the defrost T-stat, is what is clipped onto a spot of the evaporator on the back section of the freezer behind the panel. It's not the Temperature Setting Thermostat that you turn i.e. Colder / Warmer.

Got it! Thanks for your help :flowers:

The Christmas decorating bug bit me last night. I do the same thing over and over every year.

It was a long day at church with a 2.5 hour vestry meeting after.

Seahawks are looking glum but happy for the Sounders winning the MLS tiltle last night.

Today was getting ready for the light snow. Brooms ready on the porches etc.
Then... the tree up and decorated for Christmas ...

Sad to say that the freezer died again before the parts got here. When the parts both arrived, I figured it was worth a shot. The defrost timer took some doing because it's tight in there, but the thermostat was a breeze. I got both parts put in, but it was a no-go. I kissed her goobye and pulled the plug :(.

On a brighter note, I love that little audioengine music receiver. It's da bomb :D. I have 10 hard wired, in the ceiling speakers, so I love that my dinosaur stereo system can now get iheartradio and play it throughout the house. My favorite station is Cool Oldies. If someone were to look in my window while I'm dancing around in the kitchen and unloading the dishwasher, they'd think I'm a little nuts, which I probably am :D.

Saturday I did some Christmas shopping, and Sunday I cleaned up the hanging baskets outside that were semi-frozen.

Enjoying the day today. Snow last night was minims, and all rain washed away now.
Mommy Tina is up at the church finishing up some gifts for the poor tree tags.
So, I'm just enjoying this Quiet time for a short period!

sawdust and pot pies . . .

putting the edge banding on the sideboards - two three footers + one four footer + 2 desks...lotsa's sawdust.....

I went to the mall today and got a haircut then on to a place for new glasses. My eye sight is not 20/20, anymore, from the lasik surgery and don't want the tune up. Glasses are so expensive now!

I ordered a case of Seville oranges and will make marmalade after Christmas.
