What are you doing today?

Got a lot accomplished today.
Housework and laundry, a trip to the thrift shop to drop off clothing I'll never look at again.
Dinner was planned but after a nap, I went to the fridge and just made a plate of this and that, off the bone ham slices, cottage cheese, sliced tomato and some saltines.

Buzz, you ate cabbage soup for a week in order to lose 3 pounds???

God, you are disciplined! LOL!

Lee

Yeah. The "inventors" claim 8 - 15# weight loss in a week. Maybe an elephant....

I make a slow cooker full of soup at the beginning of the week and other than the soup it's nothing but fruits and veggies. No meat, dairy, or alcohol (that's the hard part).

Looks like I am the only one on here at 11:41PM LOL!

Anyway, had a good day at work and will be working the next 3 days.

I don't see a weekly dinner thread so I'll just add that I got toasty roast beef sandwich with green onion cheese and horseradish sauce on whole wheat, and some Dutch Gourmet rippled thick cut tater chippies at my favourite little place downtown.

I've decided to eschew my list of weekly chores and do just what I damned well want to do today, for a change!

Going to read some of Steinbeck's "Cannery Row" that a friend suggested I'd like.

Going to work on making my father a personal Advent Calendar out of old photos, with a copy of a movie poster from "A Christmas Carol" (the original) as a cover.

Going to take my neighbor's dog for a walk on this beautiful Fall day.

Going to watch a DVR'd episode of American Horror Story with my friend, Kathy, as we eat dinner (that she cooked) in front of the TV tonight.

Chores, bills, other obligations can wait for tomorrow!

Lee

I read Cannery Row in high school and never again - I should.
We read Travels with Charlie in junior English class, another
good one. My friends and I would sit in a circle and read Of
Mice and Men - my part was Lenny, of course.

BTW, one of my friends, and I haven't seen her for 50 years!!!!!!
is Phyllis Somerville. It looks like she's got her own TV series and
will have to find it.

I'll go help clean the church today; the bishop is coming tomorrow.

My brother and brother-in-law are flying in from Chicago today and
will visit for a week. they are going to Portland to visit some friends,
as well. Tonight I'll grill steaks for them as mentioned in the other three.

That's all I have and ttyl.

Today I must have gotten up from the wrong side of the bed.
Tina had to go up to the church to sort the bulletins and fill in inserts etc.

I had to wait for the new chair recliner for the uncle to be delivered. Thank goodness they were prompt and here at 10 am. The surge protector was bad, and so I had to scrounge for one that I had hooked to something else. Got that fixed.

Dw then found the oven not working on one side of the range. The darn pilot was out.
Cleaned the thermocouple, and relight the pilot, and all was ok.

DW went up to Alpine Butcher shoppe in Blairstown, NJ , and got some knockwurst and lunch meats and German sausages.
In the meantime, I had to give lessons on the new recliner chair operations to a 92 y/o man who cannot hear or see well.

At 2:30 pm, I then had to make him lunch of a grilled cheese and a B&W cookie.
He doesn't like butter / oil / margarine, so I make toast in the toaster; then I stick two thin slices of Land O Lakes American cheese between the two slices, and I nuke it for 12 seconds on high. Perfect instant grilled cheese, and no burning it in the fry pan, and Better Yet, No holding the bucket under his chin whilst he Heaves and Yaks!

It was a special day for me today; myself and 7 other's were received or confirmed in our church by the bishop from Seattle.

After church my family went to brunch at Shenanigan's on the Tacoma waterfront and had a wonderful time.

Right now I'm watching Pepa Pig with Amelia - she calls me Papa Pig. Oink!!!

Going to work on making my father a personal Advent Calendar out of old photos, with a copy of a movie poster from "A Christmas Carol" (the original) as a cover.

The Advent Calendar

I bought an 11 x 17 picture frame and the same sized movie poster.

I cut 25 "doors" in the poster, and put photos of our family and friends behind the doors, so when Dad opens one door per day from Dec. 1 to Dec. 25, he will see a different friendly face.

I filled in a bunch of blank spots with more photos, so when he removes the poster, he'll have a framed photo collage.

I have to figure out now how to finish off the collage to make it not look so .... unfinished.

I am not an artsy-crafty person, and I'm making this up as I go along. I'll get better with the next one!

Lee, your advent calendar is wonderful :)

Johnny, I remember confirmation day, all those years ago.
I was 13. I recall Sister Mary Joseph telling us the bishop would slap our cheek during the ceremony lol
Of course he didn't, more of a gentle tap.

Today was nice at work, just another fulfilling day at the 'crest.

Congratulations Papa Pig! LOL.... God Bless You!

Thank you so much and God Bless you, too.

Ms Muffin, the bishop did pat my face, too, and explained the slap.
Blessings to you, too!

I have to say it was a moving experience and fun at the same time.
The bishop is a funny guy. My brother from Chicago is here and they
have mutual friends from his church in Chicago. It's a small world but
then the Anglican community is not huge.

OK, with the company here as well as Amelia and Meg there is extra
things to do and have laundry and dishes which never seem to end.

You all have a great day!

It looks like a windy, rainy rest of the week.
I'll do some housework and then work tomorrow.
My company leaves Saturday and then things will
hopefully get back to normal. Tonight is dinner at
Bob's Burgers, I think.

Neat idea! May be too late for this one, but you could take a posterboard, situate the pictures like you want, trace around each one, cut the openings a little smaller than the trace lines with an exacto knife, and then affix the pic's to the back of the posterboard.

I'm not very crafty either, but last night I messed with some ceramic plates that I spray painted and glazed. They're far from perfect but look sooo much better than before.

I like fruitcake, but I like the cherries cut small.
I get the job of cutting the sticky candied cherries in 4 pieces when Tina makes her Cherry Nut Butter cake.
I believe the recipe is posted here somewhere.
I like it, because it doesn't have the big chunks of the other fruits like pineapple and the other citrus.

was inpatient fer a few, (electrolytes & oversee my progress.) & that was my near-evening. other than that, these past few daze-- drank scads of fluids, lunch was 2 dabs of mashed potato/gravy, & i was asleep for nearly 36 hours+. only woke to use ladies' room, take meds, & speak w/ doctors & nurses.

& then i gt a roomie. got to hear my lunatic roomie scream & yell over stuff they could not find a real meaning for; i heard my nurses whispering nearby, & there was not 1 positive test on her except fer boredom. they gave me a sedative, finally, once i said i could not tolerate her shouting any further. & thus usually could ignore her in that night/morning they put her in my room. i was glad they gave me medicine enough to sedate me through, to where i got naps in when she was having a fit. 1 nurse was kind enough to say, 'we're so sorry bout that'. they should have given her a sedative & an anti-psychotic. they gave her pain meds, & that was that. despite my overhearing them saying she was negative for symptoms/illness via full-body scans/testing. i think she was ISO meds-- incessantly saying one is insufficient & requesting another, potent one. she was a nutcase that was in a general hospital. think she should have gone to a psych hospital. so that was my last few days/nights. rooming w/ a lunatic.

I'm subbing a K-1 sped class today then having 11 for takeaway Indian food tonight. It's going to be a long day and night, I'm afraid.

Have a good day folks.

Luvs, take care. I'm reminded of the roommate I had when I had my knee done. He would not shut up and drove me nuts.

Today would have been the beginning of what I call my long weekend off (Fri-Mon), but I traded Wednesday for today with a coworker.

There is a chance for snow flurries at some point today, our first snow of the season.

I expect dinner will be the usual Friday thing- a group of us will all pitch in for pizza delivery or designate someone to run across the road to Jing Fong for Chinese takeout.

Let's see, Cooksie! :blob_blue:

You have to keep in mind that this was my first time to work with the glaze. I'm not sure if I didn't let it get tacky enough before wiping or if I just wiped too hard. Anyway, it wasn't going into the crevices like I wanted, so I starting dabbing instead of wiping.

One of the plates in progress, before the dabbing, maybe I should have stopped here...too late now:

Did this a week or two ago - you can see the birds before the glaze:

Pussy%20Willow%20Branches.jpg

Birds after glaze - went a lot lighter on the glaze with them and probably should go back and do a little touch up, but hey, they aren't supposed to be perfect :

The birds and plates were all cloisonne in pink, green, and gold.

My company just left and the house is quiet as king tut's tomb. I have a few dishes to do and recycle to tke out but considering the shebackle, it's not bad.

Then there is the laundry and company bedding... I guess I do have a bit of cinderfella work. :starbucks:

i'm so not into baking cookies (yep, i'm a Chef, & yep, i despise baking- so boring to me- too fussy & precise. i'm a woman, so i already have that angle well thought of, in many, many other ways.)
'cept i dedide that i'm gonna make some dough & have a pal bake them $ me. she gets to keep half of them.

Hate Hate Hate cookie and cake baking....
That's DD's job... ( which she loves doing )
I'm more a pizza maker, or a bread baking once in a great while. LOL

Baby sitting the old uncle today!
Keeping tabs on the siding guy's today too!....Having the house sided.
My painting the house day's are over!.....

Tina is up at the church working at the soup kitchen.

Yup, two years ago we had our house sided, too. I painted it once using burshes and rollers and never again.

My church does a soup kitchen on Wednesdays when the rector and a lot of the vestry are there. Last year I made soup twice and grilled burgers and dogs the last Wed. before the summer break. I've not signed up since all the days are booked through December.

Geez, Cooksie, they all look terrific to me - great job!

I like your display of pussy willows, too!

Feel free to hate me. :good:
