Wednesday, 2/16/2011, Whats on the menu today?

Sheila has bowling tonight and I'm playing pickup hockey, so it'll be the burger and beer special up at the bar that sponsors her bowling team (Burger and beer for me at least). Not a fancy dinner in the least, but they do make good burgers up there.

I'll run out for something on my dinner break, or eat what they're having at work.
I think today is spaghetti!

We had our granddaughter Alexa this afternoon while her Mommy did a few errands and some shopping. They were staying for dinner so I made some basil fettuccine in an Alfredo sauce, some grilled chicken tenders and fresh steamed broccoli. Salad for starter and brownies to finish.

Bottom round roast

Bottom round roast, roasted broccoli (EVOO, ground sea salt, ground peppercorn blend and lots of herbs and spices), mashed potatoes and burgundy wine & pan drippings gravy (I put a round rack in my cast iron pan and roasted the meat on it).

Peeps, your suite is ready at our home. Do you have a departure date yet so we know when to expect you????

Thank you Mary!!

Your dinner looks fantastic! What kind of sausage did you use?

Thanks, Peeps. It's Conecuh brand sausage. It may only be available here in Bama, I'm not sure about that. I posted the recipe over on the Mardi Gras thread.

(grilled) salmon salad, soooo lite & refreshing; i'll get that again!
i also got scalloped potato. milk as my beverage & then one of these vanilla shakes (they aren't frozen, though- they're in cartons & 'ya drink them as is.)

I just did something simple from the regular cycle. I think we've had it 3 times in the last month. Time for something new.

Chicken Apollo served with Risotto Milanese. That's that saffron/white wine/parmesan risotto that I made with the osso bucco. It's a new favorite.

Joe, Peeps, Mhend. Such wonderful dishes.
I didn't take pictures, but we had a great dinner. Lamb Chops, Mint Jelly.
And I made a tasty veggie combination with Mushrooms, Onions, celery, Asparagus and Bean Spouts.

oh how i long to lace 'em up, smack around a few rubber pills, then go for a beer and burger. hope you had fun, ronjohn. i was there vicariously, you know.

peep, wow, nice roast beast!!!! yummm.

good looking plate o' pasta joe, and a beautiful baby girl. you must be proud.

and i could go for that gumbo, mhend. nice job!

i had my first cub scout event tonight that i executed by myself from start to finish. all of the planning, phone calls, reservations, advertisements, sign-up sheets, reminders, directions, injury waivers, and collections of funds finally paid off tonight as i took the pack snow tubing at campgaw mountain in mahwah, nj.

i think the cubmaster was testing me because he and the other leaders suddenly couldn't make it at the last moment, but with the assistance of dw and a few other moms, it all went smoothly. lots of smiles and squeals of delight all around.

everyone had a great time, and i was even able to please the few parents who only wanted to go down the run once or twice (but not pay ) by taking the last ticket from a cancellation, attaching it to my jacket, then letting each of them use my jacket to get on the lift line. thankfully it wasn't cold out. :a1:

i'll post pics when i can upload them.

getting back on topic: before the slopes, we went to the mahwah bar and grill for dinner. http://www.mahwahbarandgrill.com/about-mahwah.htm

we shared an order of steamed clams, then dw had a garlic shrimp/arrugula salad special, my boy had onion soup and mozzarella sticks, and i had the onion soup and sandwich combo. the sandwich was a delicious stacking of turkey meat, stuffing, cranberry mayo, and melted swiss cheese on soft, herb foccacia. it was fantastic!

we hope to go back to both this weekend.
