Think I'll join jkath - different reasons

Joyfully Retired
The reference on another thread to "joining an AARP forum" has made me realize that maybe I am just too "senior" to join in the fun here. Guess I'll go back to the "other place" where age does not seem to be a factor and none of the other members are put off by it. I will miss you guys - but I am suffering from a terminal case of hurt feelings...bye-bye.

Karen, can you point that thread out to me as I must have missed it. I hope you reconsider as you will be missed. I have always enjoyed reading your recipes, posts and your thoughts on everyday matters.

Well I cant protect you from getting your feelings hurt or provide a thick skin for ya. Seems like folks around here care for you. I would appreciate if you didnt go.

Please don't let one persons silly comment run you away from those who care for you and enjoy your company!! :(

I'm not sure why you think age is not respected. I have no concerns - indeed little knowledge of anyones age. I enjoy your posts and hearing about things in your part of the woods.

There are things that I find beyond my taste but I tend to ignore those threads and concentrate on the stuff I enjoy. I did that on the other site as well.

Karen, I hope you reconsider! I so enjoy your posts and your art!

Age is not a factor here! For heaven's sakes, a TON of us here are at LEAST middle-aged, so why would we be put off by it?

Ahhh come on Karen. He was saying we're all old, and possibly members of AARP. From that thread most of us are eligible to join. :hide: He's just jealous cause he can't join yet. :D
I hope you will reconsider. Please!

Here ya go miniman: AARP

I didn't see one thing on that page that defined AARP .... it IS an organization you join when you reach a certain age, right? To get discounts or something? I couldn't even tell you what the acronym stood for without looking it up  Weird home page.

Just saw that, Mama. Thanks.
I thought it was more for retirement age people, but that would explain why I just started getting letters from them to join. Maybe I should open one one of these days (lol).
I gotta admit though, I have a feeling it's likes most organizations, if you aren't poverty level, you have a job, and you are not of a minority.... they probably won't help you out.

Is it just me or do others see someone announcing their departure, especially for such thin excuses, an act of manipulation?

I see it on par with;

Them: Good by Cruel World (puts gun to head)
Me: It's easier you pull the hammer back.
Them: Don't you care?
Me: About what?

You get the idea.

It's all about getting your money Chow....

I've been getting AARP info since I turned 30.... what's up with that???
Is it just because my parents are older than most people's my age?
I bet that's it.

I don't know about that, We wren't poverty level, Wife has a regular job, and unless Immigrant Italian counts as a minority, we're saving $40~$50 a month on our combined insurance with the AARP discount. Of course I'll have to verify that with Wife as we're both 50, she's retired and I got the card on her coat tails, and I just sign the papers.

Thanks, Wart. It's good to hear it works for some.
I go into these things with a negative attitude because nothing I've ever been shown to save money, can I seem to qualify for.... Maybe getting old puts me in a different category (lol).

I'm a member as is my wife and we save about the same as you yearly Wart. The AARP is a lot of things beside discounts such as a lobbyist for senior citizens issues and very powerful to boot. They also have a magazine that is pretty good reading that covers everything from health issues to pending legislation that might effect seniors and it does of course give a lot of discounts on car, health, life insurance as well as hotel room, meals and other things.

I think some of you are missing the point. I don't believe that people are announcing their displeasure and departure out of some immature need for attention. I think that they are trying to tell the community that they find how some people behave here has become intolerable for them and why. Further, if this continues more people will leave and this grand experiment in having free speech will implode due to the lack of civility. I have thought people have been drunk on freedom and had hoped that things would settle down here.

I am glad that babe has decided to stay and I wish that you would reconsider Karen. The only way to affect change is to stay and make a difference. I am sorry that your feelings were hurt; I truly am.

I know of others who feel the same way as babe. Others may soon follow if this issue is not addressed.

Now you have my $40 worth. As a super site supporter, I hate to see valuable members, people who I consider my friends leave.

I was wondering the same thing Wart. I went back and referenced what was being said, it was a joke and not directed toward her at all. I am completely confused as to her reasoning here.
