I can sympathize Allen.
I bottomed out my car going over a set of shitty railroad tracks and had to have over $400 worth of work done on it.
NOW after weeks of it driving just fine, it stalled on me and my mechanic tells me he thinks it's the engine that needs replaced.
I can afford that, but I sure as hell cannot afford a new car right now.

Good luck to you.

take it to a new mechanic

a car doesnt just doesnt normally drive fine then all of a sudden stops and then you need a new engine..usually there are warning lights,smoke,bells,whistles..etc etc..

i am driving an old nissan pathfinder with over 300K miles on it...the check engine light came on 50K ago and it is starting to shudder..but i know its gonna die..its giving me a warning...

when a car stalls for no reason... it is usually for only a few reasons...no spark,no gas to the engine

i have never had an engine just all of a sudden quit on me without reason and i need a new one. AND i drove a car just like yours... i actually liked them.

Well, $1,382.11 lighter, we have the van back. I haven't driven it yet, but probably today. We're off to take the truck to get the brakes worked on, as the front brakes are grinding. Joy

On top of all that, I think that either my allergies are starting to act up, or I'm getting a cold, or a combination of both. Clogged nasal passages, post-nasal drip (which I'm learning to hate), and pained muscles.

I'm not totally sure I've got a bug. I did a lot of up-and-down on a ladder yesterday, cleaning out the gutters. It's possible I just abused some muscles and they are letting me know about it.

Ok resuscitating this one two... Blinkers people they are on your car for a reason... oh sorry your hands were busy with that cell phone my bad I should have just known that you were planning on turning ARGH

OR, it might have been nice if you'd have turned on your frickn' blinkers BEFORE you slammed the brakes in my face to let me know in advance you were going to make a turn.

dumb ass

It's not only that Buzz, it's as bad when you are waiting to come out of a junction and the oncoming trafffic turns before you with no advance notice and you could have got out. It's worse over here with all the roundabouts.

It's worse over here with all the roundabouts.
That's so true. We have them here in New England, except we call them rotaries. When I moved to Massachusetts from Texas, I had never seen them before and I quickly discovered how alert you need to be in a rotary.

I posted this on FF, so I guess I'll do the same here-

So today wasn't such fun at work.
We have a patient on rehab, elderly lady who is a known brittle diabetic, dementia.. the whole ball of wax.
NA took her to the bathroom around 4p, and she can't stand, talk or do anything.. the woman almost hit the floor.
This was in the midst of my first med pass and vital check down the hall (she's at the end of the hall).
I go racing down there and do a quick check on her blood sugar. 43.
Barking out orders for oj with packets of sugar, anything to keep her from crashing.
Nothing during report was mentioned about said lady not eating much breakfast OR lunch.
I had to find this out by pulling the dietary book from the kitchen.

1 hour later, and after finally getting her blood sugar to slowly rise into the 50 range after chest rubs (sternal rub), shaking her and forcing sugary drinks into her mouth I still wasn't happy.
Checked her orders. NO standing order for Glutose, much less the Glucagon IM we keep stocked in the med room.
Without consulting the doctor first, I forced as much Glutose into her mouth as possible, feeling pissed and panicked all the while.
Recheck on blood sugar.. still at 58 30 minutes later.
Called the doc because I felt I should send her out.
No. He asks me what the problem was, and told me to go ahead with the IM Glucagon.
After that, she started to rouse and become more her feisty self.
She ate 50% of her dinner around 6, but promptly threw it up shortly thereafter.
Still, her blood sugar was at a happy 110 by then.
I made damn sure she was given HS snacks, and then spent at least 20 minutes writing notes on this poor woman.

Today, I was not such a happy camper. Arrgh!

Thanks for reading if you did.
Bitching and sharing is often therapeutic.Glad I have the next 2 days off.:sorry:
Nighties!

It seems that you may be one of a very few competent caregivers there. I'd be upset too!
I'm proud to know you as you show an ethic that's becoming rare in the care industry.
Kudos, Sass!

I have to vent, so I resurrected this thread.

It annoyed the hell of me that one of the members of the "singing" (I use the term loosely) group, Black Eyed Peas, appeared at the AMA's in what looks like a wet suit and a baseball cap (worn askew, of course) that's covered with LEGGOS!! Sheesh!

So, I continued to watch, to see if maybe his talent was so great that I could overlook the ridiculous get-up. God, no!

Okay, I feel better now.

Friday is pizza night at work (usually).
Around 4:30 I asked around and wanted to know who brought in food, who wants to order in.
Nobody on the east side brought in anything, so I said... Ok, pizza night?
Seems my fellow nurse and the aides were broke, so I said I'd order 2 large pizzas from Jack's.
Fine.
Pizzas arrive, I grabbed 2 hot slices.
Word spreads quick when there is food in the house, Free Food?
The whole of the west side came over and went to town like starved dogs taking the pizza that I had ordered for our wing.
That pissed me off.
It's the last time I order or pay for pizza at work.:glare:

How rude of them.
Makes me wonder though, if the same thing happened in reverse one time or another so that they figured it was payback.
If it is something the do regularly there is no excuse and yeah, that would piss me off to. Next time could you get by with letting folks pay for what they eat but you could let those who didn't have the cash slide on paying? Nahhh, I guess that would cause more hassle than it's worth. Some places I've worked when a buy like yours happens most donate and insist they help pay for the food. Others places folks would never get out the wallet and always show up and eat for free. Like your reaction, that makes folks not want to buy next time. What a shame.
I wonder who was the one that 'spread the word'. If they announced it as free pizza then they might have caused the issue.

Reminds me of your monkey video .

Sorry your co-workers did that. I agree, it was pretty rude.

LOL Cooksie!
Perhaps most folks are still in the holiday/eating mode around there.. I don't know.
During the holidays, there is food sitting everywhere around the facility and you help yourself. Some people supply it, others not at all, but it's there for everyone.

The thing that was most disappointing is that those working on my side were too busy WORKING, while the dogs/monkeys from the other side were helping themselves to generous servings.
Ahh well, live and learn.

Thanks all.

I was so upset these last 5 days... Fannie Mae was trying to pull a trick on a house I want to buy

This house on the market was listed @ $180000, we offered $185500
We got a verbal notification for “highest and best” received.
Our offer was declared as “the best” and now they were trying to change their mind.

We got really upset and the realtor let them know that we are not putting up with their crap.

Today we may get the contract as we see the house is listed as contingent.

This house needs a little cosmetic works but is worth double the money we pay.

Posting in political threads on other forums pisses me off.
I need to stop doing that.
Right now I am pissed at myself for doing so.:dizzy::bonk::yum:

lol sass.

sometimes being right reminds you that at the very least, you're living rather than existing.

sometimes finding out that you were wrong does that as well.

either way, there's a common denominator. that's why we do it.

i know what you mean. i've been tempted to go offline for a while as well. too much bullshit from people using friendship as a tactic rather than an honorable pursuit.

I'm not much for public ranting, but hey...what the hell? I'm rather fed up with customers who believe I'm too expensive. A couple came in today and ordered a Hot Roast Beef poboy (which comes with a free side ), a plate of Pasta with Red Gravy and 2 meatballs, a 16oz iced tea and a bottled Ocean Spray CranGrape juice. With tax it came to 27$ New Orleans has 9% tax rate. The sandwich, 6oz of slow roasted top round, served with homemade brown gravy on a 7" french roll, was ordered dressed (I make my own roasted garlic mayo) with lettuce, tomato, pickle and hot pepper. It came with a free side order of french fries. That was 10.25$ The pasta with red gravy is $6.75. Add 1 meatball for 2$ or 2 for 3$. The meatballs weigh just about 4oz each, cooked. So, that's 9.95. It comes with a slice of our signature garlic bread, which is about 3 inches of french bread, spread with melted butter, minced garlic, diced tomatoes, grated parmesan cheese, shredded mozzarella and and fresh parsley. The 16oz iced tea is about 2 bucks, and the bottled juice is about 3$. Sorry, but that is a huge quantity of food, all prepared from scratch and all prepared to order. The woman said in a condescending tone 'well, I suppose we have to expect this downtown.' Bullshit!! Some of you have dined at my place...honestly, I couldn't possibly give the food away any cheaper than I do and still manage my lease, food bills, utility bills, advertising, staff, etc...

10 minutes later, a well suited gentleman comes in to order a Pasta with Red Gravy and 2 meatballs. He hears the price of $9.95 and says ' that much for spaghetti and meatballs?? forget it' and he left. Not to mention that I only use imported san marzano tomatoes, olive oil, crushed garlic and fresh basil for the sauce.. Again, am I supposed to just give it away?? Meatballs made with beef, pork, fresh garlic, cheese, fresh bread, fresh parsley, rolled by hand, never frozen....

I just don't get some people.

We stop serving breakfast at 10:30 because, honestly, most of my customers are white collar workers from the CBD (central business district). I get the scattered tourists who want late breakfast and I'll accomodate them as best I can. The other day, a couple from NJ came in at 11:15 and requested breakfast. It wasn't too busy at the time so I accomodated the request, taking just about everything that had been repacked into the cooler back out for the orders. I rang it into the register myself, seeing the credit card total. I poured their coffees even though the coffee station is self serve. I prepared the breakfasts and one of my staff members served it for them, again, even though, normally a ticket number is called and the customer picks up the plate. They also didn't want to get up for the self serve condiments, either...and asked someone to bring them butter and ketchup (all of which is located on a very nice baker's rack, clearly for self-service) At this time the regular lunch crowd is coming in and the staff is busy with new orders....
They didn't leave a tip on the credit card tab. They didn't put a tip into the tip jar and they never left a tip on the table. So, their opinion of a place that accommodates a 45 minute late breakfast request, personally fills self service orders and then clears the table is that no additional service was rendered beyond the price of the food. ****ers.

I love my restaurant and 95% of the feedback is fantastic. But, when I see this type of crap it can sometimes spoil an otherwise lovely day.

Oh Vera, I am so sorry you had to deal with those sorts of people.

The first couple who ordered all that food must be nuts.
That's a LOT to eat for the price! Should have told the witchy woman not to come downtown in the future.

You should have told well-suited gent to take his ass elsewhere for spaghetti and meatballs, like Pizza Hut! LOL

As for the third couple, that's just plain rude and heartless.

Hope you feel better now.

The world is filled with A-holes and incompetents (and stupidity). Dealing with them is but one of the costs of doing business, no matter how much we'd like to take a frying pan to their heads. :bangin:

Agreed.

In the heat of battle, when dealing with the small percentage of customers who suck the life out of me, I feel very much like taking a frying pan to their heads.

But when I'm relaxed on a day off (like today), I think how it must suck to wake up in the morning and be THEM - complaining, finding fault, selfish, rude, cheats. How unhappy they must be.

And I try to think that everyone you meet is fighting their own battles, so try to be kind to everyone.

It's really, really tough sometimes, though.

I feel for you, Vera.

Hope you have some better days ahead this week!

Lee

that's painfully rude of them

greed & disapprecation is shameful

i'd say, think of the many others that appreciate you & your food & your restaurant when the likes of those rude customors arrive. i've noticed that sort of ill-mannered customer in various establishements. you're not the problem. it's thier ignorance & self-centered behavior that's the issue.

your food sounds lovely to me.
