Easter Sunday dinner!

luvs

'lil Chef
i am dining w/ my dear Mom, Vinny, his kids & vin-vin rang me iso a yummy ham glaze recipe site, so ham it 'tis! i dislike ham, unless its citerrio fresco deli hams, same for most turkey, though....... i'd wither & wilt, though, before i'd snub the dinner that they'll be so proud of. my Momma makes the potato. so fluffy & yummy.
then after dinner, jake'll take me to SIL-to-be's place 4 the nite.
figure she & i can microwave some popcorn, chit-chat, watch a chick-flick & also make some tie-dyed onsies & socks 4 raynin, my 'lil newbie neice, & tees 4 her boys & 4 us gals.
then i'm lunching w/ another friend i haven't seen in ages.

then meeting another friend 4 drinks if not addt.'l food, again! i'm gonna be so full! she's later on this week, though, thank goodness!

have a great easter!~

Happy Easter (all who celebrate)!!

My cheesecake came out beautiful.

I have a small turkey which says uncooked 3 - 4 1/2 hours unstuffed cook time. When I put it in the convection roast it goes really quick. I will put it in around 12 or 1.

I'm going to my sister's today with my entire family. No cooking for me, I'm just bringing the salad and bread. I'll help her when I get there too. She's making a ham today.

I hope you all have a wonderful day with your family. Happy Easter!

Doing the usual Easter ham, a confetti corn pudding which is a crock pot recipe, the official Ohio green bean casserole for the MIL and a rhubarb/apple pie for dessert. THe $3.29/# for rhubarb prompted me to get a couple of plants so we can have home grown and cheap next year.

I have a chicken to roast, will make green beans with mushrooms, baked sweet potatoes and mashed taters, and fruit salad, and home made ice cream.

We were all invited to a crawfish boil yesterday. Early Easter feast! Boiled crawfish, potatoes, corn, and jambalaya..boy did I make a pig out of myself! So, today, it's gonna be something light! Happy Easter everyone!

My niece and her hubby are hosting Easter dinner this year, which will be later this afternoon.
I called her yesterday and asked if she was sure there wasn't something I could bring.
Seems she wants to do the whole thing herself, and is quite excited about it.

Ham, au gratin potatoes, green beans almondine, dinner rolls.
Dessert is to be fruit salad and cake.

Happy Easter to all :-)

WOW it got hot today!! It was 86 in my house so I put the A/C on!! The turkey is still roasting. Most everything else is prepped and waiting. Last minute gravy (waiting for the pan drippings and fond from the roasting pan) and the stuffing/dressing (I make homemade but I don't bake it, we just serve it hot out of the pot) are waiting for the bird to come out.

a dietz and watson ham (if this one is as good as last time, i'll never buy another brand), asparagus, stringbeans, polish potato salad, coleslaw, farmer's cheese, pierogies, and polish rye bread.

DW & I just came from Breakfast At Denny's. Good bye Biscuit's and gravy! (till I lose another 20.) But there is Easter dinner tonight + 1/2 bag of hershey's kiss's the rabbit left
Tonights dinner--- Steak-Mash Potato's-Corn-Tapioca Pudding.
Of course This could all change by the time we make the Market.

I have had that ham and it is wonderful bucky!!

We had goulash followed by hot cross bun pudding - a oshed up bread & butter pudding made using hot cross buns, chocolate spread, pears & more chocolate.

Spent the morning in the Quarter - caught two bunnies and 2 jelly bean filled eggs!

After taking the house apart from last nights dinner I wasn't convinced I was going to make anything. Stopped by the restaurant and picked up a couple of bags of mussels. So, it's looking like mussels with linguini and a spinach salad.

Still have a few slices of my parents' birthday cake left for dessert.

I also have a 12# roast in the oven for work tomorrow..

Hi Vera. I Missed your birthday, so happy belated. It was spring break, so I been able to post a little. Semester ends in a month.

went to see dad for breakfast bacon sausage and french toast hit the spot. Aunt's house for the main event but only stayed through the antipasto have some manicotti and meatballs I took to go but wanted to hit the road early which was a good idea because traffic was pretty horrid. It was nice though because my aunt and uncle have a big yard and it was a nice day so we were outside and my dogs could come. they were uncharacteristically good and did not eat any small children, knock over elders or destroy anything of value.

I was pleased. The duck breast came out a perfect medium rare. The parsnip were the perfect foil, so sweet with just a touch of bitter. The asparagus were tender.

And dessert was lemon chiffon pie. My grandmother always made lemon chiffon pie, and I hadn't had it in years, so it was a nice memory.

No pics of dinner - just the pie.

My wonderful friend and neighbor, Kathy, helped me bring my mom over to my aunt's nursing home for a traditional (modified) Polish Easter dinner. Complete with Easter baskets and white chocolate bunnies for each of them.

I had reserved a conference room in the nursing home, and we brought ham, fresh kielbasa (Boar's Head brand is almost as good as homemade!), colored HB eggs, horseradish, red cabbage with bacon and dried mushrooms, and sweet bread with the eggs baked into them.

The peanut butter chunk cookies for dessert and the cranberry/seltzer drinks were the biggest hits with my mom and aunt, lol!

We laughed and sang Polish songs and had a really nice time!

I'll post a pictures of the kielbasa (I was SO impressed with it), and my mother and my aunt, and my sweet friend, Kathy (the pictures of her were taken last summer).

Lee

P.S. Buckytom, wish we could have combined family Easter dinners this year - we would have loved your stuff!

such a nice story Q looks like you all had a really special easter so nice to bring the older folks together.

on fresh kielbasa note I had it for the first time ever recently from this place nearby where they have been making it for generations. It is like small garage on a back street in an traditionally polish residential neighborhood totally amazing stuff I think i was the only person on line who was not a cop or married to a cop.

Peeps, I think I may faint.. LOL:clap:

Forgot to mention, Becca put on quite the feast.
It was precious seeing her beaming and so excited about having a family "do" at their place.
The ham was a Sugardale, potatoes were PERFECT (made from scratch) she followed a recipe for the green beans to the letter, the rolls were my beloved King's Hawaiian.

Didn't over do it, because I wanted to sample the fruit salad (oranges, bananas, pineapple and walnuts).. the cake was a white with cherry frosting.
Aunt Lollie was happy.
My sister is doing ok right now, though bone cancer never sounds good, but we are a praying family, ya know?
She ate and seemed to be enjoying herself.
Good day but didn't last nearly as long as I'd hoped.

FANTASTIC-looking dinner, Peep!

I SO wish I had just a sliver of that cheesecake right now!

Thank you Jackie, Sass and Lee.

I am so glad you had a wonderful dinner with family Sass. Hugs, kisses, thoughts and prayers to you and your sister Sass sweetheart.

lee, that would have been fun. actually, it would have been great for dw to spend it with your mom and aunt.

let me explain. most of my side of the family got together at my parents' house but, after much discussion ( i don't know how many easters my mom and dad have left) dw asked me if we could stay home. easter was, quite appropriately for catholics, the biggest holiday of the year for dw's mom.

my mil would decorate the entire house in spring flowers, bunnies, coloured eggs, lace draperies, doylies, her best china, and such awaiting the arrival of the priests to bless the food. she'd set a huge, fancy table and play polish/slovakian music and try to convince the priests to come back for dinner - you've never seen someone not take no for an answer that stubbornly, lol. she'd cook up a storm for just 4 or 5 people, but hope that more would join us. ham, kielbasi, fried fish, pierogies, borscht, beets-n-horseradish, asparagus, stringbeans, radish and cucumber salads, young cheeses, breads, etc., etc.. i can't even remember everything, but it was always an amazing spread.

after her mom passed, dw feels her loss very badly this time of year, so i was ok with just having a quiet day at home. i've well exceeded my stress limit of late, so it was time to decompress before i went postal. as much as i missed my family, it was a good idea. god help the people i have to go wake up, drag down the hall and then train tonight, though. lol.

i think being with your mom and aunt enjoying a polish easter would have been very comforting to dw. maybe we can try to plan something for a future easter, or at least a polish sringtime celebration someday.

you know, you're a good daughter to do what you did for your mom. kudos and a virtual hug for it.

I have had that ham and it is wonderful bucky!!

peep, i'll bet you're spoiled with your hubby getting great meats!

dietz and watson is pricey, about double everything else offered in local supermarkets, but we only eat a big ham like that 2 or 3 times a year and only on holidays, so why not splurge. it's only about $10 to $15 dollars more. you only live once, umm, unless you're the son of god. and he was jewish, so i doubt he ever tried dietz and watson...
