Did you know?

Sir Christopher Lee met Rasputin's assassins, saw the last guillotine execution, hunted Nazis, recorded a heavy metal album, spoke 9 languages, was Ian Fleming's cousin (James Bond) & was the only actor in “The Lord of the Rings” to have met J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is far too long to copy and paste from my phone, so I'll just add the link.

20 facts you might not know about 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
Interesting!

I particularly like the fact about the crow!

Beatrix Potter, born in 1866, was a renowned English author, illustrator, and naturalist best known for her enchanting children's books featuring anthropomorphic animals.

Raised in a privileged Victorian household, Potter developed a keen interest in nature, and her childhood sketches of animals evolved into a prolific career as an artist and storyteller.

Her timeless tales, such as "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" and "The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck," have captivated generations of readers with their charming characters and vivid illustrations.

Potter's contributions extended beyond literature; she became a respected conservationist, playing a pivotal role in preserving the Lake District's natural beauty. Her legacy endures not only through her beloved stories but also through her impactful conservation efforts.
I have a jumper made from wool from her sheep.

The tomb of Marie Curie in Paris, France: It's lined with inch-thick lead to shield visitors from the radiation that emanates from her remains.
Curie, a French-Polish scientist, made history as the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only person to win in two different sciences — physics in 1903 and chemistry in 1911.
Despite being barred from higher education due to her sex, Curie pursued her studies at the clandestine "Flying University," where she laid the foundation for her revolutionary discoveries of radium, polonium, and the concept of radioactivity.
Sadly, Curie’s pioneering work came at a great cost.
She unknowingly exposed herself to lethal doses of radiation. She often carried radium in her pockets, studied it tirelessly in her lab, and even admired its glow at night. She succumbed to aplastic anemia in 1934, a condition linked to her exposure. Today, her body and personal belongings remain radioactive and are expected to stay so for another 1,500 years, a lasting testament to her profound impact on science.

This is what the two boxers looked like when they fought 110 rounds! Yes, you read that right, 110 rounds of 3 minutes (7 hours and 19 minutes of fighting!)
It was April 6, 1893, Andy Browen and Jack Burke The fight ended in a No-Contest because when the 111th round was called, the two exhausted and swollen boxers were unable to get up from the stool to continue the fight
It is of course the longest boxing fight in history.

Remember the Marlboro Man?

From the mid 1950s through most of the 1960s, Robert Norris (an actual cowboy/rancher) was the famous character. He never smoked and passed at the age of 90. Born 4/10/1929, passed on 11/3/2019.

Five men who appeared in Marlboro-related advertisements — Wayne McLaren, David McLean, Dick Hammer, Eric Lawson[24] and Jerome Edward Jackson, aka Tobin Jackson — died of smoking-related diseases, thus earning Marlboro cigarettes, specifically Marlboro Reds, the nickname "cowboy killers".

Wolf.jpg

🐺
The wolf never eats corpses, neither of animals nor of people; it spends its entire life with one partner, it does not mate with its mother or sister; it is a monogamous animal, it does not cheat. If a partner dies, the wolf remains alone; it knows its young well: it is the only animal that helps its parents after a deep old age and brings them food.

✨
When you kill a wolf, it looks you in the eyes until its soul leaves it; it is 25% smarter than the dog and it is the only animal that does not obey training, they say. Wolves think, dream, make plans, communicate with each other intelligently and are more like us than any other living being

The world's largest dam that affects the Earth's rotation
🏟️
THREE GORGES DAM
🏟️

Do you believe that China's Three Gorges Dam has increased the length of the day by about 0.06 microseconds
🌊

Yes, it's true.
🌊

💧
This is the world's largest dam, belonging to the Three Gorges Hydropower Plant, built on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province, China, the world's third longest river.
The world's largest hydroelectric power plant in terms of total capacity, its maximum capacity is 22,500 megawatts.
💧
This dam, which is located 175 meters above sea level and 91 meters above the Yangtze River, is about 2,335 meters long and 115 meters wide, spanning an area of 1,045 square kilometers. .
The reservoir contains 39.3 cubic kilometers of water, which is said to weigh more than 39 trillion kilograms (42 billion tons).
💧
The addition or subtraction of such a large amount of mass affects the Earth's rotation due to a phenomenon called the 'Moment of Inertia'.
Thus, raising 39 trillion kilograms of water 175 meters above sea level would increase the Earth's moment of inertia, thereby slowing its rotation. However, the effect would be extremely small.
💧
As NASA scientists have calculated, such a mass shift would increase the length of the day by only 0.06 microseconds, and the Earth would become slightly rounder in the middle and flatter at the top. It would also change the position of the poles by about two centimeters.

The worst death toll in the United States for a winter storm occurred in The Great Blizzard of 1888 in the Northeast. Over March 11–14, the blizzard dropped between 40–50 inches of snow in parts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. It blocked roads and wiped out telephone, telegraph, and rail service for days. It was responsible for over 400 deaths (200 in New York alone) and sank 200 ships. New York and Boston created the first underground subway system partly in response to the massive 1888 storm and the gridlock it created.

David Attenborough:
Pufferfish release a toxin when they puff out that is meant to impair the attacker, so they can safely escape. Ironically, this doesn’t work on dolphins in the same way.. it actually gets them high. So they purposely inflate them and pass them around to their dolphin friends for fun.
