Anyone cooking 'Autumnal'?

I haven't been able to grill for the past month! It's impossible to stand out there in the yard since it feels like I'm standing on the surface of the sun.

I picked up rabbit the other day (frozen, unfortunately)...and am planning a rabbit ragu for this Saturday night.

It's been in the 90's here all month, but it seems like I have the oven going every other day anyway! I'm definitely ready for fall.... but around here that usually means snow. Hopefully, we can get through September without any!
I did look longingly at some butternut squash yesterday, yes with lust in my heart...

I stuffed a butternut squash last night with apples, pecans, sausage, onions & sage. It was definitely fall comfort food.

The pic is an old one, but it always looks like this.

I NEVER cook by the calender. If we want it and the price is right I make it anytime of the year.

Me too Peeps...whatever we're in the mood for. I just made some pumpkin pancakes the other day.

High Cheese, the rabbit is available at Rousses supermarket year round.

My oven is hardly ever on at home any long, save Saturday or sunday.. I just don't cook that much there any longer. Back when I lived in Jersey, I had window AC units and the kitchen was always hot in the summer..to hot for the oven. Now that I'm in New Orleans and have central air (that has been on since the last week in April) my kitchen stays pretty cool.

guess I am the odd one. I cook by the season.

Now its pretty much cooking for my diet. Even so I like lighter foods in the summer. Foods that are in season at the markets.

Heavier bulky food in the winter. slow cooker & stews ,soups, winter/fall casseroles etc.

We will be hot & humid till end of Oct. In fact its 95` & storming like crazy right now.

I am inside with the air on, but still I only want lighter type foods. Come Oct. when the air goes off & its nice & cool do I make chile. Etc.

Carolina, you're not the only one! I mostly cook with the seasons, too, and I also like to eat lighter foods in the summer. I heard long ago of someone whose oven stays off between Memorial Day and Labor Day - if it can't be grilled, microwaved or done on the stovetop, it doesn't get made. I'm not quite that strict about it, but I always remembered that  It's just too hot and humid here to turn on the oven very often.

I'm definitely looking forward to cooler fall weather and soups and stews and long-roasted meats and veggies.

I made a praline topped apple pecan cake yesterday; and carrot cranberry muffins, too. I've still got one foot in summer, though..because I also made kiwi white chocolate scones.

I'm ready for pumpkin pie.

I came home last night to beef stew, topped with a large dollup of sour cream. it was pretty good.

In fact a good food day. I had an emergency call at an "Energy Kitchen". yesterday. They fed me lunch after I got their restaurant point of sale system working.

I have been craving a burger. It has been such wretched weather / or I have been busy, that we have not cooked out all summer.
