Help me design a new kitchen

I posted some pictures of "my" floor in another thread but since this thread is concerned with the kitchen (and the rest of "Fran's floor") I'll put them here. We're very pleased with the way the house turned out. Someone asked about the kitchen island where the cooktop is located so here it...

Using the Big Green Egg as a smoker

We had one in Naples and another in my Wausau apartment. I don't have any kind of cooking ability in my bar other than the microwave so these will do. We'll certainly use them for canning. Fran and I have been using induction for several years now, and her kitchen island cooktop is a 5 burner...

Using the Big Green Egg as a smoker

Last night we had guests and I cooked a Cowboy Rib Eye for the four of us. Indirect heat with some smoke at 400 degrees until the meat reached 127, pulled off the grill and let the internal temp rise to 133, then seared outside on a portable induction burner, 2 minutes a side. Delicious. My...

We've moved in. Another week for unpacking and putting away and things will be more or less normal. Thanks JoeV for the kitchen/dining room swap suggestion. You were right on the money. Here's the kitchen. :)

Using the Big Green Egg as a smoker

I was gonna get both a natural gas fired grill and an electric smoker but I read so many positive reports about using the Big Green Egg as smoker I thought I'd give it a shot. After fifteen years using a propane smoker in Florida I was tired of having to constantly monitor the temperature and...

Cooking "celebrity" from out of my past....

Auto racing's worst, and best, day

It's a bad day for me. I'm a huge Formula 1 fan and today, May 1st, is the twentieth anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death at The Grand Prix at Imola, Italy. I don't have many heroes but Ayrton was one of them. There were two driver deaths that day - none since. It was the day that changed F1...

Any Don Williams fans out there? I'm leaving in 45 minutes for a concert - just a block and a half from my Wisconsin apartment. I've always liked his easy going singing style. :)

    Kale Chips

I found this in a little local newspaper. I settled on 17 minutes at 300 degrees. I bought a bunch of kale plus a bunch of red kale. This is red kale. For seasoning, on the left is salt and red pepper flakes, on the right is bacon salt. This is regular kale. Seasoning on the left is...

    Roasted Brussels Sprouts

A little over a year ago I made a post about a Trader Joe's recipe for Brussels Sprouts but it contained maple syrup and was too sweet for my taste. Any recipes would be appreciated because I love Brussels sprouts and want to do these in the oven or on the grill, sans syrup. The brown goo is...

Help me design a new kitchen

Yes, Cooksie, we like open designs. This is our fourth build and hopefully the last and best. The downstairs (MY area of the house) is sort of like the main floor. In this picture the upper right hand section will be a free standing bar and and kitchenette. It's located directly under the kitchen.
