In Sri Lanka if someone runs over a cat the car(or whatever the vehicle) is sold immediately. The owner wouldn't drive that vehicle again.

They consider it extremely unlucky. If a cat crosses the path while walking, a majority would stop for a while and then go. Lol. But again, it's the same about a Buddhist priest too. While the Buddhists treat monks with utmost veneration, the same Buddhist would avoid meeting a monk in the morning. Why is that, Indike?

gecko is another bad omen. If a gecko makes its noise "chuk chuk chuk chuk" ( what do you call it?) then nobody leaves home or start anything good for a few minutes. There's a special column in every almanac about what it means if a gecko lands(falls) on each part of your body. If a house gecko happens to fall on someone they run to the almanac to see what it means

There's more. A Sri Lankan would not grind chili-peppers and lime together on the grinding stone. Never. They grind the chilies and other ingredients, and then put lime and mix it with a spoon. They consider grinding chilies and lime together on a stone is to curse someone to death/destruction.Great and curious info, Indike - thanks!

That is a story that I'd like to know more about. Poor thing!
