Valentine Day Cake

Here is the cake Nancy made today. Her mom always made her a cherry nut cake with penuche frosting for her birthday. She has her mom’s heart shaped pans from the 50’s. This is the first time I remember her making one.

Dessert was the cake and heart shaped jello with bananas and fruit cocktail.
The jello molds were Nancy’s mother’s and she made these for the kids every
Valentines Day.

I think a whole package of brown sugar went into the frosting. There was a good portion left over that’s like fudge. You’d love it.

The cake seems easy enough to make.

1 10 oz. jar maraschino cherries, chopped
1 cup pecans chopped
1 white cake mix

Drain cherries, saving the juice. Pour juice into one cup
measuring cup, adding water to equal one cup. Make the
cake per directions adding cherries, nuts, and juice.

The penuche recipe. I was wrong on how much sugar is used, it’s only 1/2 cup.
