'lil Chef
my Mom gave me a go-ahead on making dinner.....i was soooo grateful :bb:that i was cooking dinner! i was 'bout 9 then.
i made a tuna-noodle casserole. that's my mom's beloved food although :puke1:for me. that was 1 of the Lenten Friday meals, though.
so i cooked some egg noodles, added cream-of soup, peas, some tuna, seasoned, placed in a casserole, baked.
your official 1st dinner was.......

Beans and Franks casserole, from a Scholastic Book Club cookbook for kids.
Was a staple dinner (when Dad was out of town anyway), for years!

Couple cans of pork and beans, some ketchup and dry mustard mixed in, cut up hot dogs, some bacon slices on top and into the oven, if I remember correctly!

First meal?
Don't know about the first ever meal, but I know I made biscuits in my Grandmother's kitchen when I was very young, like around 6 or so.

i helped my mom a little when i was a kid with things like norwegian pancakes, eggs, toast, and so on, but the first meal i made entirely by myself was when i was about 19 years old.

it was for an old girlfriend, my first serious relationship after college.

i decided to make shrimp parm. unfortunately, i cooked the shrimp for about an hour in the sauce, then melted the mozzarella on top. it was like eating pieces of old tires. :yuk: i've never made it again, lol, even though i make a number of dishes with shrimp as an ingredient.

Oh goodness... I can't remember. I always helped grandma in the kitchen LOVED THAT.

First thing I remember making on my own was brownies using her recipe.

WOW Bucky!! You like older women?

Pastina and eggs for Mom and I. I had it ready for breakfast when she got home from work (she worked night shift). I was about 12 years old and we ran out of romano and parm cheese (it was shopping day) so I used cheddar cheese. It was different but good.

lol, peeps.

actually back then, yes. she was 21 at the time.

isn't it funny, i still like 21 year olds...

I haven't thought about this in years, but my first attempt at cooking dinner by myself was memorable!

I was in the 5th grade. Mom worked full time - she was a detective. I was the oldest of 5 kids. Dad was gone(?) a lot. I decided to surprise mom and have dinner ready when she got home. Spaghetti. I had helped her make sauce many times, so that part went smoothly. Put the noodles on to boil just before she was due home, and we all watched for her to pull up in the driveway.

Then I took the pan to the sink and copied what I had seen her do countless times. I held a lid, slightly askew over the pan of water and tried to drain it into the sink. That pan was a little heavy for a 10 year old. All of the spaghetti went down the drain! My surprise turned into a disaster. Mom ended up finishing her surprse.

I've helped in the kitchen for as long as I can remember with my grandmother and great-grandmother, but my first meal all by myself was when I was around 11 or 12? My mom had some health problems and was bedridden for awhile, so I decided to make spaghetti. Back then, I had no idea that you were supposed to drain the grease from the meat after it was browned. I just poured the sauce right on top. When it was done, there was probably a good half inch of oil floating on top of the sauce! :yuk::yuk:

I think we ended up having hot dogs.
