you're a sick, sick person peep.

how can you think of dinner before the sun rises on the day?

i'm just heading out now for souvlaki for friday's dinner. unless shake-n-bake pork chops happens to show up on 57th and 11th in the city sometime soon...:whistling:

peep, if you need some endorphins for pain, check out wnet - pbs channel 13 in the nyc broadcasting area.

there's an annoying pledge drive on, but they're showing "make 'em laugh", a funny documentary about tv comedy.

...or maybe it's the need to be the keeper of the dinner thread..??:bounce:

It's opening up to be another beautiful shore day..so as soon as I post this I'm off to pack a picnic

As we gear up toward New Orleans we'll be drinking sazeracs tonight.
First course is roasted marrow bones with lemon gremolata and stuffed zucchini.
Dinner is pan roasted potatoes with cubanelle peppers, grilled rib eye steaks, sauteed mushrooms and green beans.
Lou has not made the wine selection yet.

Dinner is that blueberry peach pie with homemade vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Now...it's suntan lotion time

homemakers mostly woman have been doing it for centries!! how do you think they plan meals for a week or more and save money on the sales? not to mention a soup, stew, tomato gravy or soup etc that needs long prep and cook time like thawing, prepping the ingredients and the actual time from start to finish!! or did you think the indians and pilgrims, santa or the easter bunny brings dinner?
it's like a game of chess, you gotta be 3 to 10 moves ahead!!

I do all my planning on Thursdays when the grocery flyers come in. I usually know a week ahead what I'm going to be making for the week. It may change from day to day but the meals are the ones I planned for.
If I'm making something like a stew or spaghetti sauce i start it the day before or late morning. It's always done in time for dinner.

I really hope you got some sleep, Peep. But hey, if you need help with your menus, holler. I do the same with a full-time job. Here's a tip - no soups, stews, or long-cooking sauces in the summertime  IMO, the best way to enjoy all the fresh garden bounty is as simply as possible.

Tonight, we're having a mixed bag - the starter will be a marinated salad of bocconcini and fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden; grilled chicken with a glaze to be revealed later (Iron Chef entry) and grilled veggies over a green salad, accompanied by grilled French bread. No heating up the house today!

I'm going to grill some chicken, too, as in chicken wings. I think I'll leave some simply seasoned and I'll make up a hot/blue cheese sauce for the others. And some grilled potato wedges with steak seasoning on them and lots of ranch dressing. My goto no brainer meal.

I was hoping to grill something tonight but I think the rain is about to start and I have to finish up cleaning out my mom's room. Not fun!
I think I'll just have DH take me out tonight.....

thanks sweetie!! i don't limit myself i make soup, stew and sauce anytime of year. sometimes you just gotta have it!! LOL

i have some green pepper, onion, potatoes, green onion, shredded cheddar and bacon. i'm thinking sauted veggies, potatoes and bacon omlettes topped with cheddar or with fried potato and onion homefries on the side. or dipping eggs (over easy or poached) with homefries cooked with all the above bacon and veggies and some baking podwer bisuits to dip in the yolk!! or corn and bacon waffles. hmmmmmmmmmmmm i think what we are having for dinner is ..................................... BREAKFAST!!

updates to follow!! have a great day everyone!!

plus i am hoping to throw together some spinach pies!!

Hey, Bo - I don't think of it as limiting myself - I think of it as keeping myself out of a hot kitchen, enjoying the great outdoors with a glass of wine in hand, watching the garden grow while I grill and marinate the fruits of it  But diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks - makes the world interesting!

oh i wish i lived by you!! LOL long story.

i had a BLT (with a perfect red ripe tomato slices!) on rye toast with mayo and a pickle half on the side from meadowlands dinner. YUMMY!

Chow, you've never had marrow bones???? Oh, I think you'd love them. Honestly, it's a bone...about 2 inch diameter, and the marrow takes up about an inch of that. Roast high heat for about 20 minutes...then scoop out the marrow onto toasted ciabatta it's amazing.

High, like 400? Just some s & p? I can get them pretty cheaply. YUM!

Well,,,, not "per se"
When I was a kid and the family would have Swiss Steak (which was always the brown version), there was usually a 1/2" thick bone or two and I would eat the marrow. I didn't know it was an actual course to fix though. I guess I thought it was more "novelty" eating (I'll dub it). It was there, so I ate it. And nobody else wanted it (lol).

marrow is delicious on toast! i introduced myself to that after a bourdain book several years ago!

I guess sometimes you just fall into gourmet eating and don't even realize it ;^)
I'm pretty sure I never ate fat force fed goose livers as a kid though (lol).

I'm glad you got some rest. :thumb:

I generally decide the night's dinner based off what catches my eye on NCT. I run out, that day/evening, and get the ingredients...I look for things I can make some other night, things that require more preparation, but plans change so often ('round here) that sometimes it's not easy to set my sites on any particular dish unless I know everyone's on board with it. Like tonight...we'll be on the road, so we'll most likely pick up something on the way down.
