What are you eating Sunday, 9/28/2025 to Saturday, 10/4/2025?

(This was yesterday)

Several years ago, my friend Bonnie, who lives in Hawaii, out of the blue sent me a CARE package of Hawaiian decorations and goodies. I have been saving that box for a special occasion, and finally got that occasion this weekend.

My friend Jan's birthday is next week, and we decided to have an end-of-summer party, using some Hawaiian-inspired recipes and the box of gifts that Bonnie sent.

In Bonnie's box were leis, a beautiful tablecloth, a bottle of rum from Kaui, lovely shot glasses, a mug, and some macademia candies.

We had grilled Spam, pineapple and veg skewers (substituted Spam for ham) - loved them! https://www.thekitchn.com/hawaiian-pizza-skewers-23344688

Also, marinaded grilled shrimp - loved it! https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/131733/hawaiian-beach-shrimp/

And I had smoked a pork butt for pulled pork served with Hawaiian rolls - too bland, didn't love it (no photo)

Jan and I sampled the rum in our shot glasses - very smooth! Ann made coconut macademia bars for dessert that were spectacular!

Bonnie's beautifu, thoughtful, fun gifts sent so long ago made our party for us!

Pictures below. Ann is white-haired, Jan has light brown hair, Kathy is the redhead. Everybody, Bonnie is the platinum blonde.

Today, we woke up frumpy, and grumpy. Tina had the wishes for scrambled eggs splashed with ketchup. I cannot take the smell of eggs made that way. But, to each there own, I guess?
Lunch was Knorr's boxed chicken noodle soup.
Supper was shrimp and chicken wings from Popeyes.

We're overnighting in Tri-Cities so we'll have sandwiches and mac salad. I made the salad at home. The sandwiches will be my version of the old Denny's Super Bird. I make them more like the original, not the current version. Bacon, turkey, tomato and cheddar cheese on City Sour Dough. At home I do them in the air fryer. In the RV, a skillet will have to do.

How was it, Larry? Did you like it?

I roasted my first little sugar pumpkin just to see what it was like. Delicious! Flesh as tender as butternut, skin so thin and tender you can eat it. Definitely a keeper!

Served with baked chicken thigh and roasted kohlrabi fries (bought a tiny kohlrabi at the farmer's market).

Now, if only the Sox can beat the damned Yankees, tonight will be perfect!

Today, we spent too much time catching up with an old friend -- is that possible? -- Post Falls, so we ran over to Yoke's and grabbed some of their deli fried chicken and jojos and took it back to the RV. I made a salad to round out the meal. Sure wish we had Yoke's markets in our area!
