Re: What are you baking today?

I have a new customer, and when I went there today to do the work, I found the husband in a hospital bed in the dining room. He has terminal cancer and has been in this bed since May of this year. When I finished the work I chatted with him for about half an hour, and learned what his favorite dessert is, but his DW does not know how to make it. I promised him that I would bring him his favorite dessert, but he has no clue that he is getting it today. You guessed it, it's one of my specialty items...

It feels so good to do something this small that will bring so much joy. they are iced and I'm on my way out the door.
BTW, how about the recipe?

Re: What are you baking today?

Joe, this doesn't surprise me in the least........I'm sure your heart swelled when you took them to him. That's what it's all about!
God Bless you, my friend!

Re: What are you baking today?

When I took the rolls to Gus, he was getting ready to have his dinner of potato soup. He took one look and a sniff, and told his wife he wanted his dessert before his dinner. She tried to dissuade him, but he said "Hey, I'm a dying man and I'm going to have my dessert just in case I don't make it to the entree'." He gave me a wink and we both roared. Poor Kathy was defeated and had no choice but to cave in. He loved it, and is looking forward to eating the whole tray of them. He also ate his soup after the cinnamon roll.

Re: What are you baking today?

Just the baking weather I've been waiting for :)

Today I'll make a "scant" loaf (haha) of Potato-Rosemary Foccacia and an apple crisp..... ONLY to use up the vanilla ice cream of course....

You may even get pics if you're good!

Re: What are you baking today?

what??? nobody bakes anymore???? sheesh...
At least not that they will admit. I bake bread every 7-10 days, but it's the same old same old and I don't always talk about it because I feel like I dominate this thread. I do have a taste for Kolachi's though, and I just bought some apricot preserves, so maybe....

Re: What are you baking today?

I made a loaf of No-Knead bread with JoeVs' cousins' Italian seasoning blend. Very good!!

Re: What are you baking today?

Made eight quarts of Chili yesterday, and seeing as how I was gonna be in the kitchen anyway, and seeing as how I haven't attempted a dessert since the bundt cake incident, I pulled out the old (and I mean OLD) Betty Crocker book and manifested my favorite thing in her book................

Apple Dumplings

Re: What are you baking today?

You guys are killing me here. I'm putting in so many hours that I just don't have time to play in my kitchen.

BTW, those apple dumplings are awesome, and that pizza looks delicious. I can't even look at the sausage bread without gaining 5 pounds.

Great job, Foodies!

Here's another recipe for an apple dumpling by Ole Blue that is very tasty, too.

I like it because it is so easy, I can even get my kids to make it. And also I usually have all of the ingredients on hand.

btw how did the mac and cheese dinner go?

Re: What are you baking today?

You're welcome, Peep. They aren't as spectacular looking as Lucky's (those look magazine worthy), but I usually cover them with vanilla ice cream anyway. LOL
