lilbopeep

🌹 Still trying to get it right.
I will hopefully be atempting a first run of Sweet and Sour Chicken. Sides will most likely be jasmine rice and steamed broccoli.

Though barely into Friday, I DO know breakfast today is Quiche, with jumbo lump crab, baby spinach, roasted red pepper, and a little Parmesan. Gonna be finished with a sherry cream reduction at time of service.

I think we(my ladyfriend and I)are meeting a few people fir dinner at the local Red Hot and Blue for dinner. Only 4 blocks from the house, but I hope we drive, I always get a case of the meat sweats, followed by a food comma/nap promptly there after.

Good late/early morning Ralph!!

We went to a Red, Hot & Blue in VA (near Busch Gardens) when on vacation. I liked the dry rub ribs with the sauce on the side. I bought a bottle of the dry rub.

Nice comforting food tonight:
hamburger steaks and mushroom gravy, egg noodles, peas and salad.

fresh pepper pasta with shrimp and jalapeno sauce or pork loin and wild Rice melody with the side of peas

Hey, luvs .... how do you do the potato-crusted cod?

Lee

We're having chicken tamales that we bought from the Tamale lady, some rice to go with, salsa. These are wrapped in banana leaves, like those you find farther south, and they are really good - we had a taste last night.

I roasted some chicken breasts and veggies for dinner tonight. Not too pretty, but it tasted good! :)

After the huge meal 2 nights ago, and our trip out with friends for Mexican food last night, we went light.

Large salads, each with a roll - I felt so healthy.

But then I unmolded the panna cotta that we didn't eat on Wednesday.

Coffee panna cotta with a chocolate Kahlua sauce.

Thanks, Peeps. Your sweet and sour chicken looks perfect!! Love the chopsticks too.

Looks authentic, Peeps. What went into your sauce?
Thank you ladies!!

Ingredients for the sauce:

  • pineapple juice
  • water
  • granulated sugar
  • apple cider vinegar
  • lemon juice
  • yellow food coloring
  • corn starch mixed in enough cold water to make a slurry
  • Plum sauce
  • Apricot preserves

Delicious food everyone, both pics and stating what you had for dinner.

I had a some chicken, pea and pasta thing at work, and a lemon bar.
Wasn't bad.

nice dinners, peeps and mhend. :applause:

and nice dessert, ss. :applause:

dw decided we needed a new fridge and dishwasher for the upstairs kitchen, so after shopping for them, we went to chili's (chain restaurant) for dinner against my will.

the food was, well, meh. not bad, but not great. it woulda been better if it were cheaper, lol.

we started with an appy of fresh tortilla chips, hot cheesey artichoke dip, and salsa.

my boy had the boneless buffalo wings (i really don't like calling breaded, mostly white meat chicken nuggets dipped in hot sauce buffalo wings, but whatever), dw had the chicken fajitas, and i had the combo platter of sirloin and shrimp. it was tasty, but small. i guess i'm used to supersized portions of food. that's not a good thing.

i will say, though, that we will be back. our server was sharp and attentive, and his backup even checked on us a few times.
on top of that, as we were finishing our dinners the manager came over and had a tickle fight with our son, then offered him a free dessert of the molten lava cake for us to share. i couldn't believe it when he turned it down, but he said that he was stuffed.
lol, i'm not sure who's kid this is sometimes...

then, she came back out with a handful of buy one adult-get one kiddie meal free coupons for us.

talk about good service and management, this place knows how to get repeat customers.

Funny thing about that meal. The entire Northern Italian dinner planned for the other night (except the mussels) were dishes I had never prepared OR eaten before. Osso Bucco. Risotto. Panna Cotta. For the most part, it all worked.

Panna Cotta seems to be a real hot trend in restaurants, sorta like creme brulee was a few years ago. All I knew was that it was similar to a custard. So ............. I learned.

I unmolded it, and SousChef said, "It tastes like milk jello." Well, that's exactly what it is! Milk, cream, sugar, flavoring and gelatin. That's it. Very soft milk jello. It was perfectly acceptable, but I don't think I'll bother again. Without the sauce, there really isn't much flavor to it.

I don't mean to offend any panna cotta lovers, but I'll take the eggy richness of a good custard, creme brulee, or creme caramel over milk jello any day!

Nice chicken, mhend, looks pretty to me.
Love that sweet and sour chicken, lbp. Why the yellow food coloring?
Beautiful dessert, SS.

I love to eat at Chili's, gotta have a blooming onion when I go.

Thank you Bucky and Cooksie.

Actually I it should have said red & yellow food coloring - I used a few drops of each of them to give the sauce a redish orange color like in the restuarants.
