Suggestions for Iron Chef Ingredient

Maybe I'll make an olive pizza. Last pizza I made, I piled on mushrooms, artichokes, spinach, olives and tofu-feta, and it was too many toppings. Maybe a simple green olive & artichoke pizza.

I ran the number generator this week and the result was:

I wanted to discuss next week with you. So far, we have made a holiday dinner the event for the week. Soo... Would you all like to make next week's event Easter dinner?

I will open the thread for this weeks event.

I'm fine with that, Andy.. I'm just a simple pagan who imparts all sorts of holiday traditions with the season, so I'm up for it if everyone else is.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa Dee............Glad for you and your little ones............What a Joyous Easter................Even, it is the week later....Can gather more bunny eggs on that day!!

I'm without home computer at this point. My unvarying need for viagra has locked the thing up like a vice.

Easter food pictures wallowing in the camera...and don't even get me started about the rug being torn up in the basement.

I'll be back soon.

Hey Hey Hey!!! It's Tuesday and no one did this generator yet???? Well, I just did and it's okra!!

Not the easiest thing in the world to work with, but, c'mon folks, almost all of us wanted to participate in this game when we started it.

Play with me!!!!!!!

Just a thought - but isn't there some way that these random picks could involve some "seasonality"? Surely it wouldn't be that difficult.

I ADORE okra & cook with it frequently - when it's in season. I'll have it coming out of my ears in the garden in a few months. Same goes for a number of the other picks.

I'd love to participate in some of these things, but buying poor quality out-of-season produce to do so? Not happening here.

Big sigh.

At this point, I'm all for picking any ingredient that will get me more than 3 participants.

I'd even suggest a contest with the winner being the very last person to post to the upcoming IC thread (with a new recipe/submission of course):flowers:

Not that I'm forcing people to commit, but if it's not okra, what would it take to get you to commit THIS week????

Wait! I'm already thinking about recipes for okra!

I've thought about this before, but I'll mention it because you are asking. Instead of doing the selection randomly, maybe we can think about choosing ingredients more seasonally. Yes, most vegetables are available year round like fennel, but okra season isn't for another couple months.

Maybe we could have two ingredients to choose from. One seasonal fruit/veg, and one non-seasonal meat/grain/root vegetable, etc.

Here is an example chart of seasonal items: http://www.omorganics.org/page.php?pageid=211

I still like the idea of doing this but after a while this thread became a big part of the Silly Season here. So I kinda dropped out. I also think maybe Keltin "helped" stir up participation by selecting (oh no!) things that had a wide interest. Now we're down to things like okra, squid, tofu, doritos, gravy, colors, etc. While they all raise some possibilites, some are difficult to get, and they just don't have the broad interested like chicken, beef, potatoes, pasta, and cheese.

What do you all say we clean up the list a little bit, add a few new ones, and keep going. But I'd like to have until Monday or Tuesday to post. Many times we were making the dishes on the weekend and getting the pictures posted that quickly wasn't always possible.

I still want to play, VB.

(And even though it's too late, SousChef said she's going to put the spanikopita in the oven for me tonight - there will be still pics!)

You know, since there are a lot of new people, why don't we just pick something ubiquitious like pasta or chicken for this week, and that will give us a chance to regroup for next week.

(Or chicken pasta?)

I've dropped out lately just because I don't have time right now, but hopefully that'll be changing soon. I also like the idea of allowing time to post on Monday. I shop on Friday or Saturday, so I often only have a day to cook. Finally, the challenges lately have been with less common or more difficult ingredients. Maybe it's time to reset the list and, possibly, weed out some of the items. Regardless of what happens, I should be participating more in May.

Isn't that what I just said? LOL!!
