There's no mods around so I thought maybe we better move over here on our own...seeing as how we're really not pissed off enough to be posting in the pissed off thread. So, now what do y'all want to talk about?

Mama's right, we so highjacked that thread!

Now that we are here, would you pour HOT sauce over your cornbread? What about your greens????

:) Oh mama, I thought I would love oakra in fried form, Boy was I wrong it's still taste like I'm eating snot and squishyness.

By the way Am I suppose to dredge them in something first so they don't clump together?

Oh Derek...fried okra isn't supposed to be slimy....here's what you need to do...

1 pound fresh okra (If you can't find fresh, frozen works just as well)
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups of self-rising flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
peanut oil for frying

Clean okra and cut into "wheels" about 1/2 inch thick. Put okra into a bowl and cover with buttermilk, turning to coat well. Let sit forat least 15 minutes. I like to use a deep fryer for making my okra but you can use a skillet just as well. If using a deep fryer, heat oil to 350 degrees F. If using a skillet, you'll want your peanut oil to be an inch deep and heat it over medium-high heat.

In another bowl, mix together flour, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Drain okra and dredge in the flour mixture, turning to coat all sides.
Carefully drop okra into deep fryer or skillet and fry until golden brown and crispy.

Ah ok, can I dredge them in plain flour then my batter then carefully drop them in the fryer?

Can't say anything else but....Amen!

It's crispy, "dry" (not slimey), and so lovely!

See mine was slimy and it was the cut frozen kind and I didn't do half the steps that Mama mentioned.

I'll try again, By the way my batter turned out AWESOME.....

They're not batter dipped Derek. Soak them in hte buttermilk and then dredge them in the flour and right into the fryer until crispy and golden brown.

Ok, I'll do from now, They kind of taste like jalapeno's but with out the heat.

It's better than the best popcorn you've ever eaten. We call it "Southern Popcorn".

Cripes! I grew up with a grandmother that knew all the tricks, but I was too young to get at some of them before she passed.....yet EVERY DAY I'm here.....you amaze me. Such insight and tips. :thumb:

Loving it!!

Okay Derek.
I'll have to buy another bunch and try it again.

Oh yeah Mama, Your subways was awesome, I've never seen so much new stuff in Atlanta. Our subwayonly has Jalapeno's and it was like very cool, all sorts of peppers I even though I saw a habenero tray there too.

Have you seen "Underground Atlanta". A real trip!!!

I ain’t that lazy! Usually just a rinse and fast cut, and straight to the egg wash (regular milk) and then 1 dip in flour.

I’m thinking allowing the rounds to sit a bit in buttermilk for a bit might take it to a new level. Mine is good. Won’t lie. But Grandma’s was a bit better…..won’t lie.

NEVER stop learning!!! :thumb:

Your Grandma's will always be a bit better no matter what you do unless you can find the exact recipe. It's all because of the memories attached to her fried okra.

Don't go to the movies, I hate the theater, I rather watch dvds on my 500 watt surround sound system. The popcorn get's caught in my theeth and makes my gums bleed, That's why I don't like it.

One thing about you Derek, you are honest and right to the point!
:smile::ohmy:

I think this thread is the place to ask this, since I'm just annoyed and not really pissed off. I want to put the part in my hair in the right side of my head instead of the left side. How long would it take to retrain the hair on this side to accept the part? BTW, I've parted my hair on the left side for 58+ years, if this helps to answer my question and relieve my annoyance.

Can anyone tell that I'm bored today?

I solved the puzzle by parting down the middle. The only problem is that the part is a few inches wide..... :yum:

Be careful JoeV. A part on the left is a sign of power and masculinity, while a part on the right is more feminine. A part down the middle is indecisive.

I read about this long ago, and found a quick link that talks a little about it.

The Hair Part Theory goes like this: A left hair part draws unconscious attention to the left side of the brain, which controls activities traditionally associated with masculinity. A right hair part draws unconscious attention to the right side of the brain, which controls activities traditionally associated with femininity.
