Random Picture Thread - Part Deux

In Feb/Mar we went from Hamburg to Hamburg via Northcape and it was great!
In September then through the Alps to the Cote Azur and back.

This photo is from the Colle delle finestre.

here's an interesting one - Las Vegas, mid-July, yeah....hot. these are the 'misters' - they spray a fine mist of water, which evaporates and absorbs heat doing the evaporating thing, which cools the surround air.... got their work cut out for them, have they....

The parakeet egg laid by my grandbird, Ariel.
Jeff found her walking in the bottom of the cage last Monday, very obvious that she was about to pop it.
In about 10 days or so we should have a baby bird.
That didn't take Luigi long lol
My question to Jeff is, will she sit on it now in her little round nest house since the egg was handled?
He seems to think so.

Cman - I fantasize about having one of those misters around the patio of my townhouse.

Sass, HOW EXCITING!!

She's being a stinker and wants the egg on the bottom of the cage.
The vet told Jeff that birds normally trust the person who handles them most with the eggs.
If a total stranger were to touch it, she would likely abandon it.

I'm amazed that she lets anyone take them out of her ... nest?

Lee

Lee, she was a bit skittish when I was there last.
She only really trusts Jeff or Kasey handling the eggs.
Even Kristen who is a naturalist in earth science whatever you want to call it didn't want her near. The wings flap like crazy.
They're assuming the eggs are fertilized.
We'll find out next week.

Jeff sent me a short video of Ariel busily arranging her eggs on her towel nest in the bottom of the cage.
I took screenshots of the activity.
The cage door is left open 24/7 so she can fly into the bathroom and use her fresh piece of paper towel to go potty, then she zooms right back.

Wait, the bird goes to the bathroom IN THE BATHROOM?? On a paper towel?? No cleaning of the bird cage???

I need that bird!

How cool is she, LOL!!

Lee

Yes, the birds are paper trained.

Now meet Cleo, cat of Jeff and Kristen's good friends.
Eeek!
She looks like an evil alien.

My son has a way with cats.
Lol

By the way Lee, Ariel's eggs are duds.
She hasn't bothered to sit on them since last Friday morning I believe.
The vet said fertilized eggs carry a pure white colour, not slightly tan, yellow or beige.
So no baby birdies on the way. :-(

Awwww, sorry to hear about the bird eggs, Sass. Thank for the update.

That hairless kitty is kind of endearing, isn't he?

Cleo is a spoiled kitty.
Bejeweled coats and all.
I met her briefly on my trip to Pittsburgh.
A very different meow, much like that of a siamese.

Message from Crystal Diamond ....

He made it you guys, after 4 hours of surgery. I haven't seen him yet, but the nurse told me they successfully reattached his nerve endings

Wow. 4 hours of surgery. Amazing. I didn't realize they had to attach nerve endings ...I thought it was tendon. Shows what I know. :bonk:
Way to go Dan. Glad that part is over. Here's to a quick recovery!!!!
