Presto Professional Salad Shooter

Does anyone have one of these things. We've all seen it on TV. They make it look useful but so many of the TV ads look good but do not work as advertised. However I still see the Presto Professional Salad Shooter for sale online for 56 bucks. It has me wondering, maybe it could be useful in the kitchen ....is the professional salad shooter easier to get out and use than a big ole food processor to slice and dice a few veggies? Maybe it's easier to clean also ...or maybe not.
If you have one please enlighten us: Good Deal or something we can live without.
Thanks in Advance!!!!!

I used to have one, but some part broke and they stopped selling whatever piece I needed... then I didn't see them anywhere for the longest time.
If they are coming back out again I certainly would love another.... yes I did like it much better for shredding and slicing than the FP..... it had about 6 different slicing "cones" so it was able to be used for a lot more than the FP.

Never tried one though I have sure seen them. My old GE Food Processor used a similar method of slicing into a salad bowl off to the side. Never used it though and it what broke on the old GE forcing me to buy my current Cuisinart FP.

My 2 cents: I would get a good mandoline (really sharp blade) instead of a salad shooter. They are easy to clean and give you all kinds of options for uniform sizes/shapes.

For a mandolin I highly recommend the cheap ones that can be found in most restaurant supply places. I got mine for under $18 off of ebay and replacement blades are available for a few bucks. One word though use the guard unless your fingers don't matter much.

Thanks for the responses. About what I was expecting. I was not expecting to see the Presto salad shooter for sale on a web site that I went to looking at pairing knives ...so I had to ask.

Doc, is it one of THESE that you are speaking of?

I thought about buying one some time ago, but never did. I think my Oxo mandoline Slicer does the job nicely. :chef:

Good Lord, I had one of those years ago.
Thing is, it hardly ever got use.
I suppose after a while it sat inside a cupboard and the knife and cutting board won!
If memory serves, it got sold at a garage sale inside the original box. :-)

I bought THIS gadget from Macy's at 1/2 price. Didn't move that much, so I would imagine that Macy's had stop selling it. It was amongst the stuff that was on the Clearance rack.

In the time it took to set this thing up, put some potatoes in it and get it going, I could have almost a whole 5-lb bag of spuds peeled! Besides, a manual peeler was STILL needed to remove the eyes in the spuds.

It also comes with a salad spinner strainer, Guess that's all it's good for.

If your wife has a KA stand mixer, they have a slicing attachment that works a lot like the salad shooter - and it really works. It would be convenient if she already has a mixer out on the counter because it's a snap to use. This is it:

I'm not sure if it's exactly like the on you posted above Sherman ...it was in one of the knife links at the top post in my paring knife question thread. I clicked the link again and the presto salad shooter does not show up. It appears they are rotating ads for various kitchen devices. I do remember it cost 56 dollars and looked more like a gun (hence the name shooter).

They're at National Presto's website, from which I got those pics I posted.

Yeah, it a shame that some of those sites do that.

Fisher's Mom, I thought about that as well. I've TWO K'Aid Stand Mixers, BTW, and I'm a bachelor (single). :brows:

Also, my food processor can handle the slicing of fruits and veggies as well, the one with the wide-mouth feed tube. :applause:

My brother bought one for my mom when it first came out. It is a waste of money. Don't buy it.

That was one or my worries, believe it or not. I THOUGHT that all that sweetness was too good to be true! Like the potato peeler above.

Some of Presto's appliances are good, and others, they just plain suck!
