So I got this portable ice maker for my mom from one of the Woot sites and it came today. I have to say, I'm impressed. I plugged it in and cycled it to make sure it works well and it is even better than I hoped. It says it makes ice in as little as 8 minutes and damn, it does! Plus, it's not noisy. I just thought I'd share in case anyone is thinking about one of these.
 
Well, I got it from Woot and it was $120, I think. It was the first time I had seen them on Woot, but I had looked at them elsewhere. That thing really puts out the ice!

We get kegs a couple times a year for parties and spend at LEAST $120 on ice in that year.....
I need one!
 
With my boating habit I spend a good bit on ice. This thing would pay for itself very quickly. Keep me posted also if / when you see it for sale again Terry. TIA
 
Mine is a Sunpentown. It works very well, and since getting it, I NEVER ONCE had to buy ice at all! But I paid $200.00 for it.

BEWARE of the newer thermal electric ones though. These are very light in weight because that is no compressor or condenser coils, but the system uses an electronic cooling plate to make the ice, however it does it.

This type of system craps out in less than a year! I've have two small coolers that used this system and they both crapped out just over 8 months! Make sure that you have one that has a compressor.
 
The Supentown ice maker you have is exactly the same as the one I got for my mom, Sherman. And she absolutely loves it. We set it up in the kitchen on a very sturdy little table and she has all the ice she wants now.

Great appliance, hey?

And the REAL beauty to owning it is that she'll NEVER have to buy ice again! I LOVE mine!! It's the best thing to come along since the fridge.

When I cook for the holidays, I fill the cooler with ice made by the unit, but some beer or small things that must be keep cold to make more room in the fridge for the food. :chef:
