Philly Cheese Steak or Taco Bell

Food Sound Eng.
The Verdict: B. The last time I reviewed a "new" Taco Bell item, I was a bit cynical at the use of that trite word of advertising copywriting. Usually when Taco Bell introduces a "new" item, it's nothing new; it's basically the same old ingredients, with one minor tweak, thrown together, and then given a new name for marketability. Not that what it is doing here isn't also a mere reshuffling of inventory -- especially since the company has flatbread laying around -- but for some reason, the Triple Steak Stack does in fact, feel "new" when compared to their usual faux Mexican fare.
As I sampled the Triple Steak Stack, I couldn't help but compare it to a Philly cheesesteak sandwich instead of Mexican food (or Taco Bell's version of it anyway). The steak is chopped, just like a proper cheesesteak, with melted cheese oozing all over it -- just like a proper cheesesteak. It's even in bread, not a tortilla. In my mouth, it tastes like a Philly cheesesteak, and one that isn't half bad either. However, I'm not going to go as far as claim that "Taco Bell is making decent Philly cheesesteak sandwiches now;" I know there are some hardcore Philadelphia boys out there who would be outraged and kick some ass if they knew their hometown sandwich was associated with Taco Bell. I'll just make the analogy that the Triple Steak Stack is to Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, as the other Taco Bell food items are to real Mexican food. In the end, it may not be the real thing, but it's salty, it's filling and cheap -- what chain fast food is anyway.

I'm not a huge Mexican food fan (or Taco Bell fan); but the ad on TV looked pretty good. Curious as to how much $. Years ago, I tried & liked their "Mexican" pizza. I would give it a go. Thanks, Dan.

I have to be a very special kinda drunk to REALLY enjoy Taco Bell. . .it has been a really long time. But, I mean it's steak(hopefully), cheese, and like a puffy flat bread, right? Couldn't be too bad.

Oh, and refer to my signature, lol

Actually other than the cheese used it reminds me of the Cuban steak sandwiches they make in some of the little places around Miami Florida. Dang I miss that about Miami as they where a great sandwich.

Taco Bell will never be authentic Mexican food (or Philly food) so if people can get over that and judge it for what it is (like what you said, salty, cheap, and filling, hehe), then they'd be a lot better off. I happen to loooovvveee Taco Bell, despite knowing it's awful for me, but I'd never go there trying to fill a craving for Mexican, hehe.

I've not tried their Philly sandwich yet, but I do like that they're trying to branch out into other, uh, fake cuisines? I don't know how to describe it. I had their cheesy potatoes there and they weren't too bad, but it was kinda weird to order potatoes at Taco Bell. I'd imagine it being just as weird ordering a Philly cheese of any sort, too.

That's a good'n.............

does anybody remember Timbuc-3 ? (Future's so Bright, I gotta wear shades....)

they have a line in one of their songs;
"If you are what you eat, I'm dead meat!"

Dan, that's a great ad pic..... almost enough to make me want to give Taco Bell another shot after all these years.........

I love philly cheese steaks ...and that does look good. Something about steak from Taco Hell that just doesn't seem right. Still, I might have to try it one of these days.

OK- What does everyone actually think?- SHOCK-
Not the usual Taco Bell, actually pretty good, but still does not compare with a great Philly .
