Magnetic knife holders

Any recommendations?
And, I haven't been able to see or read if there is anything to protect the knife blade; a recessed magnet, some kind of film......? (I've never seen one in person.) I don't want something that you have to be ultra-careful placing the knife on and taking it off, if it's a metal to magnet kind of thing.
What can you tell me?

Just a smallish 10" or so thing I can mount on the side of a cabinet. That Mag-Blok looks like something you'd find in Warren's kitchen.

Anyway, just your basic, small strip. Do a search on magnetic knife holders and you'll see them

lol, sorry. I meant to type that into Amazon's site in the search field. I couldn't get a link or pic to work from their site. Maybe they're copywriting everything or something.
 
I'm with Buzz on this MagBloc all the way. I have 2 - 12" cherry wood ones I mounted to my cabinets.

From the non knife connoisseur perspective the restaurant supply place had some basic ones in a variety of sizes I was looking at.

The ones posted up here are definitely prettier though!

These are great to have... very useful I miss having one.
 
Mine just handle my overflow knives as I have a 22 slot knife block filled and an 11 cleaver + 3 knife block filled as well as a full knife drawer.
 
i wonder, do those blocks magnetize the knife after a while?

i mean, it probably wouldn't be much of a problem as there aren't many (any?) magnetic foods, but you never know.

I have them all over the kitchen but I only have the plain magnet kind. I do have to be very careful when putting my knives on them. But on the plus side, they are about $7 at IKEA and I think they are 14".

Yeah. If not that one, one very similar to it. It kinda looks like the blade wouldn't rest right on the magnet,,, but then kinda not, too. Like I said, I just want something simple for my simple kitchen, but if I have to worry about dragging metal on a bare magnet, that's not for me.
Of course, if they all use rare earth magnets, I might be able to put a covering of sorts on it myself without affecting the holding qualities.
 
The wooden one for sure won't damage the finish on a knife though those with metal rails surely can if you drag the knife off of them.
 
Depends what a "good one" is. You don't want any exposed metal parts, and you don't want the material the knife comes in contact with to be harder than the steel in the knife. That's why the Benchcrafted ones are so nice. All wood in contact with the knife.

I have one that is 20" and I think it was from IKEA but now I'm not sure. I put a strip of clear duct tape on it to prevent scratching.
