Iron Chef 25 - Battle Mollusks!

Keltin still away, so I ran the random number generator again. It came up #19.

For Iron Chef 25, the secret ingredient is……..

Mollusks ! - (Scallops, Clams, Oysters, Mussels, any Bivalve)

As with the other ICs, this is a challenge to ourselves. There is no judging, and no winner. We are ALL winners in this since we will all benefit from the creativity and new recipes that this challenge will bring us.

The rules are simple, make any kind of dish you want, however you want. Drink, Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert, etc. The only stipulation is that you must use Mollusks in some way.

Once your dish is ready, it’s a good idea to make a new post with your recipe. Then, post a link and a picture of your recipe to this thread. Alternatively, if you like, post your recipe and pictures here. In the end, we will compile all the results into one thread for easy searching.

Now, let Battle Mollusks begin!

this may be a silly question but.....what is the difference between this competion and Battle Shell fish....??

Hi Dee - There was a discussion about that during that battle. Shellfish are shrimp, crayfish, lobsters, basically crustaceans. Mollusks are bivalves, clams, mussels, scallops, etc.

No question is silly. I was glad to read the discussion as I really did not know the difference.

On this cold rainy day in new york, I was fantacising about making an IC for "Comfort foood". Then I was trying to think of a Mollusk comfort food recipe. Blank. On to other thoughts.

LOL fish has never been thought of as a comfort food of mine either. unless you count fish sticks and tater tots as comfort food!! LOL sometimes i just want the simple lowly fish stick and tots, pan fried in just a tad of oil served with lemon juice and malt vinegar. hmmmmmmmmmm now i want some!!

I remember having that discussion and it did clear things up... somewhat.
I seem to remember when the results for "shellfish" were posted, clams and scallops still made it in even though it was decided they were in their own challenge, this one...
Maybe I'll make crablegs for this one :yum:

Fred - Barb thank you for keeping things in perspective.

Dee - mostly I feel well. The small of my back is sore. That is about it.

Barb - if the man in the rumpled trenchcoat should be missing, I took a side trip to Silver Sage's house that dinner looks yum.

shell·fish
an aquatic invertebrate animal with a shell; especially : an edible mollusk or crustacean

Yes, I know what a shellfish is... If it had been up to me a shellfish is a shellfish, but there were members here who wanted things subdivided, and for all the shellfish out there, that may not have been a totally bad idea, especially since bi-valves already had their own category in the numbered list, but you knew this was going to happen.
I used to run a union sheet metal shop. I try to keep things as simple as possible

Here's one for you Barb and Vy... I almost took a picture of it.
As you know, I live in the country and the local town store sucks. In last week's sale flyer they had "fresh mussles" advertised, which immediately caught my eye. The rest of the story; "Fresh mussels in 16 oz cans."
Now that is priceless.

I guess I understand Andy..........just don't let it happen too often! Her dinner did look good.

I was thinking imitation clam

Oh please, tell me there is no such thing.

Oh my!! GE sells them frozen in bags here. lol I buy mine at Euclid Fish......even though they're now in Mentor.

My GE does have fresh mussels, but the town store only has, or had, frozen. Up until the fresh mussels in a can.

Most excellent job on keeping this going. Much love to Adillo, SilverSage, and LilBoPeep for all the hard work. You guys are fantastic!!!

Oh, God !
Here we go again!!

you know what; I think I'm gonna play I.C. when the featured ingredient is plainly stated, ie scallops, clams, turkey, tomatoes, etc.
We are tending to dissect to the point of becoming a semantics blog .............
Will we let this get to the point where, when "wild Game" category comes up, will we then debate the question,"does a Farm-Raised Rabbit classify as "Wild Game"---

lately we've been getting bogged down in semantics, and as fryboy said last time....."37 posts, one IC pic" (I'm paraphrasing)

If ya aint picking birdshot out of yer food, it aint wild game.

:yum::yum::yum:

Really, I think we should revise or rewrite the guidelines so we don't have pics posted from earlier meals (earlier than the week the ingredient is featured), pics posted from late meals (meals cooked after the challenge ends), pics posted without the accompanying recipe... weren't those the original guidelines of the way this thing was supposed to run? If we are going to broaden the scope, we should say so, so everyone is on the same page.
IMO.

I wholeheartedly agree with chow!! Things are really getting out of whack with this. It was originally set up to "cook" the ingredient that specific week! There are also some ingredients that "specifically" state what the ingredient entails, like LT mentioned.......read it before going off on a tangent!!!

The theme of Iron Chef is to have one ingredient, and everyone makes something of it. So we thought it would be fun to start an Iron Chef tradition here at NCT where an ingredient is picked, then everyone makes their dish from it.

It’s not really a competition. There is no judging or winner. It’s more of a challenge for everyone to say “hey, the ingredient is X and I can make this”, then post it with pics.

There are no “real” Iron Chefs. Iron Chef is just the theme in that we have an ingredient and everyone cooks it. That way, we get so many takes and interpretations of the theme ingredient.

It’s a fun way to challenge ourselves and also boost recipe and pic count for NCT!

Plus, it’s just cool. Instead of thinking what’s for dinner, now we think, how am I going to cook this???? Should be a blast. You’ve got a week to come up with something, so it should be fun!
