Irene Near You?.. Prepared??

We survived... DD water is still rising, but the crest has not arrived yet.

She is back in the house, and they are just hoping and praying, but at least they are safe.

DS has power for now..so he is in a better standing.

I am all set..winds are dying down, and just a few sprinkles of rain.
Some streets are still flooded, and the river is roaring by.

All In All , we fared well, and are OK!

It feels like October breezes outside. Here is a shot of my yard and 2 of the sky.

OH! No! ...Peep..be careful!
The water has receded about 2 feet already since about 1 PM. The water was so high it was going into parked cars and low trucks. BUT the wind is kicking up 20 MPH form the west and causing waves in the water that is left.

Some pictures of the Town Flooding due to the river cresting...

My favorite 1/4 mile Fast Food Alley is flooded! Boo Hoo!

Here are some people walking to the entrance to the cemetary. The river is flashing over the roadway, and they took silly chances.

WOW!! Thats what our town looked like also but we don't have all those businesses. We are a small town we don't even have our own library or post office. YIKES LOL

I hope the streets clear up soon Jimmy. News 12 says some place won't be unflooded till tuesday.

The streets are still running with river water....

That is the closest Fast food alley. It is Hwy. 182. The smallest hyway in NJ. I think it's like .89 mile long. It connects rt.46 with rt57 which runs along the river to Phillipsburg / Easton PA.
The rest of the town is old historical in the town Main street proper.
We are one of three developements built in the 50's and early 60's..
It's a college town, Centenary College; which was all womens, but now it is a co-ed.
That's it....the college, and m&ms factory. that's the extent of it.
And now the town is nervous because m&m's is thinking of moving to Kansas, USA.

It's weird; we are between 2 Rt 46's LOL Let me explain. Rt 46 proper is north of us and Rt 3 is south of us. Rt 17 runs between them. Rt 3 turns into Rt 46 in Clifton at Valley Road. Kinda strange huh? Anyway my girl and I went for a drive and got all turned around and wound up driving through the town that Centenary College is in. Quaint old town with narrow streets and an "old" feeling to it. I have no clue the name of the town but the Centenary College banners were all over and I have no clue how I found my way home except I kept looking for roads heading east or north east and finally found my way to something familar. LOL

Yep...That's it, and the same Rt 46 that goes to the GWB. It runs from there to the Delaware Water Gap Bridge in Portland PA.

Yeah! the town is old. LOL...Like me! hahahaha

That's how Tina drives. She never gets lost, and she knows all the stores and malls as landmarks.
Like the one time we had to drive to a restaurant in Hackensack and when we got there for a party ....she say's,"Oh I know where I am!" "I was here shopping with Lorraine right next door there last week, and then if you take that road...you go to Paramus. hahahahahaha God love her.

Shes going to Paramus in a week or so to the Container Store. She got a 50.00 gift card. She loves the shopping and food places there in that town.
I said,"You can order on line!" She said,"What the heck fun is that?" LOL
Guaranteed she spends over the 50.00 gift card. I'll make a bet! LOL

She will drag her friend Lorraine with her, and then they can stop at the Pathmark in S. Hackensack on Rt17 there to see her husband, the Meat Manager at that store.
Boy, Won't he be surprised! LOL LOL LOL....

She likes surprising things like that.
One day I was working in Clifton at a office bldg. on Broad Street, and it was lunch time. One of the guys on the job said,"Hey Jimmy, there is some lady outside looking for you!' I was like,"Holy Crap!' What the heck is that all about?

There she was..with a bag of Burgers and Fries and soda's for me. She said,"I thought I would have lunch with you seeing that I was in the area shopping
I think she was at Rowe Mase getting a gown or a dress or something for the DD.
which was right around the corner there.

I was surprised. The guy's said,"Boy your old lady has a watch out for you!" LOL

I'm nervous about the kids as it is, and then I have to find this crap on the internet.

Here is DD and BF at his house, in the back yard in a boat.

In the background, is her pool ladder that is in her swimming pool. The pool is completely covered with water.
then they wonder why parents get nervous worring!! Grrrr

I grew up in Hackensmack area. LOL I know that whole area very well. What container store are you taking about? We may be going to Trader Joe's in Paramus and/or DePiero Farm in Woodcliff Lake then the Lido for dinner tomorrow night. It will be nice to get out.

They sell all kinds of food containers, and shelves and storage items like those big bags that you suck out the air with the vacuum cleaner and stuff!'

Been watching News 12 and parts of New Jersey is in bad shape. Down the shore is not doing so good. The Belmar beaches are on the roads a lot of damage just before the holiday. The shore towns are really going to be hit hard this holiday. People are stuck in a Holiday Inn on Rt 46 in Parsippany by Harold's and LongHorn, the whole first floor is under water. 60 People have been stranded there since saturday night with no power, food or water/plumbing. Lots of flooding still. Rt 17 closed by Hasbrouck Heights due to flooding. Still lots of people without water or power. A house blew up in Pompton Plains (or Lakes not sure) due to gas leak. I think we have had 3-4 deaths due to Irene in New Jersey.

I must say we were VERY LUCKY to ONLY have our road flood and nothing very serious here in my neighborhood. We will be going out later so I will try to remember to take the camera.

Just saw the pictures of Hacketstown.

What really burned me this morning was Matt Lauer asking if the storm had been "over-hyped."
Jeez, just because NYC didn't take a hit like they thought, they are now all complaining about being over-prepared.
sheesh. idiots. really.

Matt Lauer is the reason I watch GMA. Plus when the got that new crew in at The Early Show , I mean who's stupid idea was that?

Scott Pelly is the reason I watch Diane & George ABC World News.

I learned from a good Jewish Friend of mine; who has since moved back to Israel where he was born.

To Quote Him:
"For every Good.....There is Bad!"

"For Every Bad........There Is Good!"

* This devastating hurricane has destroyed material things, and disrupted businesses, and lifestyles; But in this days impending poor economy, and people without JOBS.....It would be Bad that this act of Mother Nature has happened.... But The Good, Will be that it will create JOB$ and Work for millions of people.

Re-building...replacing...re-manufacturing in all phases including automobile's ..and the list goes on and on.

An example for "For Every Good there is a Bad!",

We were loose to borrow, and Buy with Credit and Loans,..and the Bad from that is...>
>( Right where most of us are; in today's economy now!")<

no electricity for over 25hours!! and the only reason we got it that fast was cuz I insisted a telephone pole, which holds a transformer, was wobbling in the wind gusts and was inbetween trees which had broken branches....refridge, freezer contents gone...my knee is killing me from walking up 3 flights of stairs (no elevator) my dad's lift chair died...using lanterns, candles, flashlights, battery operated radio...no plans for seniors from the city...had to take the day off from hospital work to stay with my dad.....it could be so much worse..
Jimmy----wow--scary....poor DD
Peeps..take care, hope cars are ok...
love to all....

I love stairs, and I never ever take the elevator.............
As long as I'm going DOWN! the stairs! LOL LOL LOL

Ooooo! Remember the movie: "Up the Down Staircase". ....I could never visualise that. "Maybe go up backwards?" .....so instead of "Clip Clop"...it would be "Clop Clip?'..... pay no attention to me, I'm in a silly mood right now!
