ooooookay, this isn't for everyone . . .
but it works for us.
smoked ham hock
two medium onions medium dice
modest size pot, get up to a simmer
add: lots of fresh ground pepper, no salt
add after 2-3 hours:
one cup lentils
half cup barley
continue simmer about 2 hours.
drop biscuits & butter
fresh broccoli
simple is as simple does
