gifts you recieved for Christmas-

that was soooo hilarious, buzz! i almost refrained from watching it as i thought it was gonna be martha-esque.

now that's a gift, biskit! i asked for a new ride for next Christmas, (yep, i plan my next year's gifts slightly ahead of time. i got the 'well see' glance from my Mom, tho she actually was kinda agreeable to it. that, a camera, & boots, -they were gonna get me a camera this year. should've, i take pictures incessantly)

Our Christmas gift to one another, new counter tops, induction range and retractable hood.

Beautiful kitchen there and you should love the induction range. I've had one now for about 2 years and in my opinion beats every other form of cooking food bar none. Now you didn't mention the oven and my range has both convection and conventional capabilities which is also great.

Thanks Joe. We really do like how the induction unit performs. What I need to find before next summer is a pressure canner that is induction compatible. We have a 4 qt pressure cooker that works great. It may be a challenge to replace the old aluminum Presto.

Love that set up, MGJ. You can be cooking and people can be sitting on the other side of the bar keeping you company and be totally out of your cooking space :thumb:. Beautiful counter tops! I know nothing about induction ranges.

I highly recommend Fagor pressure cookers and canners. They make induction ready and are fairly easy to find as well as inexpensive. I have a 4/8 quart combo setup that I bought and also came with an extra top to use it as another pot instead of a pressure cooker. They make a bunch of canner setups also. I got mine from Amazon but also sold by Bed, Bath and Beyond among others.

Induction has been used for years in Europe and a few years ago hit our shores. They cook by heating the pot up with magnetism instead of a heating element. They can go down to super low temps to keep food simply warm or on Wok type cooking temps almost instantly. The draw back is no pot or pan will work unless a magnet will attach to it. So aluminum, copper etc won't work but some stainless will as will muti layer (copper, aluminum cored) will work. Cast iron even with enamel works well as does many stainless pans out there today. Much more efficient than gas or electric and heats up to full temp long before either will. I can bring a 7qt pot of tap water to a roll boil inside of 5 minutes on mine compared to about 15 on electric and 18 on gas. Also the heat changes instantly. It will go low enough to melt chocolate without a double boiler for example. It will melt butter or heat milk without scorching it. Mine also has a great slow cooker mode that actually got me to get rid of my portable version. Just a great range to be sure.

I gifted myself a new video processor for the man cave and DW and I got a new camera so maybe I can finally get some good pictures of foodie stuff.

very handsome kitchen! very! the countertops/colors look great together. (the pooch in pic 1 is a cutie, btw :))

Tartine bread by Chad Robertson and the bread Baker's apprentice by Peter Reinhart. I haven't had a chance to read these yet but what I understand they are excellent books on the techniques of making bread . So I've been told by some of the Baker's over at the pizza making forum that I visit from time to time. The other thing was a EZ-Lap diamond sharpening steel. These work absolutely fantastic it is my second one that I have owned. Santa brought exactly what I wanted. Imagine that.

Oh, I forgot to mention I bought a new used for deaf 150 truck as a second vehicle.

That would be Jake, our rescue dog who BTW is capable of snatching any food item off the new counters. Makes for some challenging cooking sessions.

I have Reinhart's BBA, and can tell you that you'll learn a lot when you start making some of his bread formulas.

I got some ham radio related books & videos that I've been wanting, and today I picked up this 3-month old Yeasu 8800R dual band radio to use as a base station in my Ham Shack. Got it for an EXCELLENT price when my friend got a new Kenwood mobile radio with APRS from his wife for Christmas (I helped her pick it out for him so he was surprised, and so she could track him by satellite on the Internet.) With only one car, he didn't need another mobile, so we worked out a deal with an older Ten-Tec HF radio and cash...we're both happy-happy.:a1: I was going to buy myself a new dual band radio for Christmas until his wife called to help her pick out the Kenwood, and said he would make me a good deal after Christmas when he got his new one.

thanks Joe. I think I will learn a lot from this book. The other book is said to be a very good book. Also, I'm going to include a link here that you might find interesting about this book it's from the pizza forum site I go to and it has over 1000 replies. So it's quite lengthily, so you may just take a look and see if it interests you at all. But I think you might find it interesting. some of these pictures are using woodfired ovens, I'm putting that on the list of things to do around the house that is build a wood fire oven.

I think you and Leni's husband with the ham radios have something in common. Have you ever spoken to him on the radio?
