i've changed timers on them and they actually worked when i was done..lol
most common problems start with the timers in my experience...then the pump(this is where food comes in..lol)
You wash your food in the washer?
I don't know anything about working on washers, but if it makes you feel any better, around 9:00 pm last night my bathtub water faucet decided that it was no longer going to cut off. It was just running and running (no telling how long it ran...$$$$$). We had to go outside and cut off the water to the house but got it fixed today.
I've never heard of Crosley, but 16 years is pretty good for a washer nowadays. Good Luck!
he most likely shorted out the timer... by the time you replace it, you may as well go buy a used one from someone... do you have a habitat for humanity re-store near you? they usually sell theirs for cheap
Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions! I really appreciate it.
Okay Warden, thanks, I'll look into seeing if the contacts got blown on the timer, and also is there a way to check the water valve? Does it have wires connected to it also, that may be scorched or burnt, or just replace it? Yikes, if I have to replace both of them, probably should go ahead and get a new washer huh?? Thanks again, I'll check it all out, and let you know! Guess I couldn't just replace the contacts and wires instead of the timer itself huh? HA! Never gonna be THAT easy!
If you have a truck and some time, check out Craig's List for a "new" used machine. You can probably find a newer machine for the same amount as buying a new timer. Good luck, Peggy. I know how crappy it is when the washing machine is out of order!
There ya go, Jeff! I've noticed that appliances are some of the best deals on Craig's List. Maybe it's because people move to a new place so they end up with double sets of really nice appliances.

the timer contacts cannot be replaced, they are part of the timer
this shows where the water valve is....
IMHO by the time you replace these things on an older unit, you may as well go buy another washing machine.. plus you are going to need fix the lid switch. i really dont recommend hardwiring something like that anyways.
i pm'd here just about that.. i have a few friends in LA that deal with used appliances... i also found some used washers for her but i have CRS and cant remember exactly in LA
i found some in Shreveport

Mine has the same problem. If I use the heavy duty cycle or delicate cycle the water just runs and runs but never fills. I solved it by only using the wrinkle free cycle, LOL!
It is a Maytag and only 10 years old, so eventually I will get around to fixing it properly once I have the $$ to do so.
Nice thing about the Maytag is that the schematics are right there on the machine, so it is easy to identify the parts for replacements.
As for being out a washing machine, I was also out a dryer for about two weeks. I was doing laundry in the sink by hand! Course this was right after I had a triple bypass, so the second I could manage it I tore both down, replaced a bunch of parts on the dryer, and got the washing machine working at least on the one cycle. Oh what fun that was!
That does not sound like a lot of fun Maverick! Sounds like a nightmare!
Well, mine will not work on any cycle. Only on the final rinse cycle, it will drain water (if it had any in it!) and spin, but that's it. I think it does spray a little water as it spins, but I'm not positive I remember that right.
That little spray on the spin cycle is for the benefit of liquid fabric softener. As it spins the fabric softener spins out of its holder and down into the bottom of the tub. The little spray of water diffuses it.
That was more than I really wanted to know about washing machines!
