I make Salisbury Steak. Love it. Oval burger, simmered in onion gravy, mashed potato, and veggie. Yum. Mom made them.

Chicken and Dumplings.

My mother used to make it, but her dumplings were the biscuits in a tube. Laid on top of the stew, not real dumplings. I’m not sure that she didn’t use a can of soup for the gravy either.

Mine was the real deal.

I went retro tonight, too, with American Chop Suey. My father adored it, but didn't like tomatoes so we made his without. I added tomato sauce this time and it was a particularly delicious batch!

But honestly, either way, it never disappoints.

Also I'll need to find some large potatoes to make a jacket spud or two/ two ways that I've enjoyed them in England and Scotland also.

I made this for a quick craving fix not too long ago (I was craving something from when I was a kid at family holidays). It's an old picture, but it always looks the same.

I went retro - but with an update!

Remember tuna noodle casserole? Canned tuna, canned mushroom soup, handful of peas, topped with cheese or bread crumbs. Sometimes if you wanted to dress it up, you tossed in a can of mushrooms.

I made my own mushroom cream sauce, added porcini powder, sautéed fresh mushrooms, used an excellent mustard cheddar mixed with the breadcrumbs. And pole & line caught tuna.

Judy declared it excellent!

Looks fantastic!!
I was going to make that when it got a bit cooler. But I just make it with canned stuff. I do use powdered porcini mushrooms, though.
