Saturday Dinner - 22 August, What's Cooking?

VeraBlue

Head Mistress
Gee...two days in a row I'm starting this. I promise I won't do it again tomorrow. Don't think we're going down the shore today..it's not very sunny and stories of Hurricane Bill have been suggesting the rip currents are deadly:ohmy:.. but I surely must get out of the house today!

Dinner, however is already planned.

Cocktail is bourbon sidecars

First course is stuffed baby artichokes

Dinner is a cioppino (italian fish stew) with fresh shrimp, calamari, monkfish, scallops, clams and crabs in a spicy tomato base, served with a side of linguine aglio e olio. Lou picked a vouvray to accompany this.

Dessert is carrot cake from B&W bakery - no way I'm putting the oven on. Stove top fire is bad enough in my kitchen, even with the AC on.

Now, I just need something to do today!!

busy day here .. get to go tear down a 18' x 16' shed and build a new one ..
yippeeee ...

then its time for ribs .. and beer ..

I probably won't be cooking tonight. DH is playing cards and son will be working. I'll probably finish up Joe's soup that he brought me. It is soooo good!! If I get ambitious I'll bake some bread today.

I've got ribs to make but I guess that will wait until tomorrow.

Vera, you're welcome to come here and we can have a pool party!! LOL

If it's warmer in Ohio than it is in Wisconsin I want to come to the party too. Your last pool party was really fun so maybe you'd like to host another.

It's 72 and sunny!! The humidity is 76% Beautiful day. I'd be more than happy to host...........the pool water is pretty warm though. You're all invited!! lol

i'm stuck here on another double shift, so dinner will be leftovers.

i brought in my grilled chops and pineapple from the other day:

The temperature here has dropped from 50 to 48 in the last two hours. Should I leave my suit at home again like last time? :yum:

Now that's what poke chops are supposed to look like!

No clue here for dinner. Everything is frozen. I think I've still got the makings of LT's fish topping in the fridge, so maybe tilapia filets.
Or I could pay 3 bucks to walk into the local park where the ribfest is going on and leave with some very expensive ribs that probably won't wow me.... nawww (lol).

We'll see what happens with these. The way I figure it, if I can't keep the fire going, there's always the trusty oven to finish them up .

I had some Italian sweet sausage to use up so I have it simmering in onions, green peppers, mushrooms and s'getti sauce. That will be lunch. After making the cinnamon rolls yesterday I felt I should bring some bread for the bake sale, as it's always a big hit. I just pulled out a sheet of focaccia from the oven, topped with fresh grated Parmesan, rosemary, basil and garlic. When it cools I'll quarter the sheet and bag it for the sale. $5 per quarter.

I have 4 half loaves rising of Italian bread laced with Italian herbs that I use for my no-knead recipe. Before they go in the oven I'll slash the top and put some fresh grated Parmesan on top. Pictures to follow.

Have no clue what we're doing for dinner. We'll thank about it later.

a lot of running around to do today starting with the dentist5 in about an hour. i hope it doesn't rain!! no clue what dinner will be. i need to go to supermarket. so we'll see whats on sale and looks good.

It's my SIL's birthday and I'm planning on doing some beef short ribs and hot chicken wings for him this evening.

It is also overcast and very muggy for a change here.

thanks homey and chow, about the chops.

but a change of plans. since i had this for lunch:

chinese mushroom vegetable soup

and and fried half chicken, smothered in sour hot sauce, over veggie fried rice

i won't be having my leftovers later. that should suffice for the day. i'll probably grab something on the way home tonight at the verablue hour...

Well I was planning on making Steaks and red rose mashed tators for DF last dinner before heading back over seas.....but now that we saw Homecooks pics of her fried tators from last night, he's asking for those! :)

Those pork chops look fantastic, BT!

Did you sprinkle the pineapple with chili powder or brown sugar or neither?

Spaghetti and meatballs for us tonight.

thanks qsis.

no, i didn't sprinkle the pineapple with anything. the chili powder sounds like a great idea.

unfortunately, i was in a rush to get the slices done so i put them over the searing burner for quick marks after being on a warm part of the grill for a while. i ended up burning them a little more for my liking, but they were still good.

as far as the pork chops go, i'm so close to getting the recipe right, but something is still missing. i know that the original recipe used gosling's black seal rum, but a few attempts back i didn't like the flavor of it in the marinade so i've left it out. maybe i should try it again. also, the pineapple went really well with the chops since the marinade was caribbean inspired, so i might add pineapple juice to it next time.

dentist took longer than i thought and i am in pain!! it started to pour so hard everything flooded. so i didn't do any errands or food shopping. so dinner will probably be broccoli and pasta. i'll go food shopping tomorrow.
