Yay!! We passed!!

This morning was the start of the most dreaded day in any given year, (except, of coarse, for DW's birthday, which I can never remember!) the day when we have to have both cars inspected. It's nail-biting time, believe me - New Hampshire inspections are extreme to the max and I don't think either Massachusetts or Maine can top what they put you through in New Hampshire! But both cars squeeked through and once more we are good to go and hopefully both of us are fit to be on the roads for another year. Except, of coarse, for the nature of the nuts behind the wheels! God, how I hate car inspections.....anywhere!

Ian

I'm with you man. I despise car inspections. I used to live in West Virginia and we were just starting out and rather poor. Those stewpid inspections would always end up costing way more than they were worth. That is one of the major reason I no longer live in WV. The inspections were a racket. And they did nothing to make the roads safer. Ohio does not require inspections and per capita Ohio kicks WV's butt in safety stats last I saw. If someone does not know to change tires when your tires are bald or to check brakes to ensure they will stop you, then they should not be allowed behind the wheel. I hate nanny states.

Oh gawsh - Car inspectuon. I have the opposite problem. I ised to park at the park and ride by the train. My truxk has a 12,500 # GVW NJ says it is self inspected.

About every three months I would get off the train to a ticket for no inspection sticker. That is a $125.00 fine. I printed oit the applocable statute, went to court, loose half day's work to get ot dismissed.

Three months later, same thing. And on and on
Finally switched to the bus.

What part of NH, I'm in the MidCoast Maine area.
Northern New Hampshire - Conway and White Mountains area. Last weekend we toured up into Maine on a "look-see" jaunt, went in in Kittery and drove up to Sanford and back. We saw lots of bikers along the way - could you have been one of them?

I'll never forget one year when I had just bought a brand new car and was on the road between the dealer lot and the registry when a state cop pulled me over for not having a proper inspection sticker on my car and not the required registration tags and within twenty minutes of driving the car off the lot I got a ticket for driving an "uninspected" car. If the guys at service stations and Midas Muffler Shops don't gouge you with all manner of "necessary repairs" and "must do" things you have to repair in order to get a sticker, the Johnny-Dogooders certainly will. I managed to extricate myself from that stupid ticket by whipping out my bill of sale from the dealer and showing the judge that I was, in fact, on my way to the registry at the time I was stopped. He just chuckled and let me go. Some sense of humor! Last year my car got failed because my two front tires didn't have "matching treads" on them but were two slightly different tires. When I got to the salvage yard to purchase two "matching" tires, the guy there told me that that was simply B.S. and that the person doing the inspection was merely trying to sell me new tires. I went to a boneyard to get my tires, thanks all the same! But depending on where you have the inspection done, that's the sort of pickey, petty nonsense you run into in a N.H. inspection....I can certainly appreciate having stringent regulations to keep all vehicles road-worthy but for Pete's sake, use some common sense! They don't need to be trying to sell the poor, unsuspecting customer every vehicular jimcrack they have, telling the poor stooge he absolutely has to have whatever to pass inspection! I think I'll move to Ohio.........

Well, according to DW, chalk up one for Ian the Imbecil! When I asked in my previous post if Lefty might have been one of the bikers we saw up in Maine last weekend it was because I was positive I'd seen a photo on the forum of Lefty with a bike! Fallon told me to call up the "This is what I look like" thread and check it out - no Lefty on a bike! She's right and I was in LA LA Land, somewhere, I guess. But I definitely found the ones of Lefty as a past Post Commander and with his cutest ever dog sitting on the couch beside him. Anyway, sorry about that, bro! The one on the bike that I thought I recalled as being you was someone else entirely. Next time I'll look first and perhaps speak not at all!

In cruising on through that photo thread I found photos of many folks I've chatted with on the forum and discovered that many of my preconceived mental pictures of certain ones were spot on and others were so far off as to be funny! Some look exactly like I'd pictured them (QSis and Sass Muffin-with RED HAIR, for example) and several were miles from my mental pictures of them. But everyone looks really great - which is the main reason I never post photos of myself to be purused by folks I'll never meet. Don't want to scare anyone!

>>inspections were national

nope. actually quite a bit less than even close to national.
data from 2003 (ouch, that's not real current....) sez only 20 states and DC have periodic inspection programs - and of those only 16 mandatory annual/biennial; 4 do "random" inspections; and one only on resale.

no, I'm not really so well read. this stuff I learned because once upon a time - up thru late 60's/early 70's, Penna required the car be inspected _twice_ a year - every blinking six months.
I was actually looking for when that ceased; didn't find that but did find a lot of other curious facts.

we've lived in PA. DE and NJ.

DE and NJ had sane requirements - drive in a (state operated) station, beep the horn, turn on the lights/turn signals/wipers, drive a bit&jam on the brakes on a skid pad - which checked to see all four wheels were braking. I suppose they looked at the tires and made sure there was glass in them thar winnders.... in later years they stuck a gizmo up your tailpipe.
that was then, things may have changed.

PA is not quite so sane.

Now why on earth would my being a red head and my posts give you an almost spot on impression? :yum:

Chicken!!

I know what you mean.
Some members look nothing like you'd expect, then when you see them it's like HEY! Hello finally! LOL
There are a couple of members here whom I've never seen a photo of, and they refuse to share them. Fair enough.
One dude whom I've never seen a pic of, I found a couple recently posted on another cooking forum.
Must say, I was not surprised, and he's tres cute.. pretty much what I'd expected. :D

Bet your life I'm chicken! Especially when there's any danger of accidently calling a red-haired person blond! But to answer your question - you just look like the young-looking, pleasant and attractive lady I pictured. Now, how's that for a side-wise slide right out of that? Have a great day - I'm off to collar the lunch trade.
