Who likes their potato ricer?

i get dragged around shopping a lot, so in order to amuse instead of killing myself, i've decided that i need a potato ricer. thus, i've begun looking for one that's dirt cheap, makes mounds of delicious light and fluffy mashed spuds, and is durable.

do you have a ricer? do you like yours, or envy someone else's? what capacity is the cup, and of what material is it constructed?

I loved mine though I lost it a few years ago in my move from Florida to Kentucky. At any rate I would like another one myself. The cup on the one I had would do a pretty good size potato about a cup or so. For mashed potatoes it is great but little use for other things at least that I found. I never tried mine with anything but cooked potatoes without their skins.

Bucky - I actually looked around a lot and I have two ricers. Neither do I really like. This one or one of this design would be my choice. Stainless steel would be mu material of preference.

In the one that I have above, The pan hook so you can use tow hands and the stop tp prevent an over squeeze are both very important.

Hope this helps.

I've got the one like Joec is referring to and I like it. I use it for lots of things other than mashed potatoes too. It's great for squeezing the excess water out of frozen spinach and the liquid out of freshly grated hash browns or you can even run your hard boiled eggs through it for egg salad..

Never thought of hard boiled eggs with it but seem about right. I have a salad spinner for greens and hash browns to get the excess water out of them.

No ricer here. I've read about them and how useful they are, but I don't know what I would do if I didn't mash my spuds using my circa 1983 TFal masher ;^D

thanks, everyone.

josie, i think that's the ticket!

chow, i have several very old mashers the potatoes of which i'm quite accustomed and comfortable, but if i must shop, i need a focus or i'll get sick. sorta like focusing on a point onshore to prevent seasickness.

i've heard that ricers just might make a better mashed spud. we'll see.

Or a point on the ground when spotting the jump plane to prevent vertigo.

I've got one like the one Adillo posted. It is great and I will never go back to using a masher. The cup holds a good amount of potato and the action is good. The only draw back is that it can be very fiddly to clean.
My boys love the mash it produces - very smooth and creamy.
