We're either going to have cornish hens or brats. We were going to have brats last night, but for some reason I decided that I wanted carbonara .

What's on the menu for you?

I'm sorry - I'm a baaaadddddd influence! :sorry:

We're going out for dinner. My friend Hank always takes us out for birthdays; but you say, my birthday was 2 months ago! He got the shingles a week before and has been staying in. I've never had chicken pox, so I haven't been near him. Now he told me he's feeling better, still has my present, and we're going to dinner.

So I get to celebrate (or mourn) my birthday a second time this year.

Chicken, mushroom and spinach lasagna, when I ever get around to actually making it.
Been in and out all day running errands and stuff.

Pan fried Pork Chops, mushroom & onion, pork gravy (made with the pan fond and dripping), steamed cauliflower & broccoli and mashed baby red & Yukon potatoes.

Looks awesome, Peeps! Oh, and I made those tomatoes last night. They were delicious! I took pics, but they didn't come out well - all blurry. Thanks again for that recipe! :flowers:

Oh gosh, I am so hungry looking at all this good food. Beautiful color on the gravy, Peeps. I could crawl into the computer and eat those potatoes and gravy. Sass, I am now also determined to make lasagna soon. That looks so good. Like alot of other people here, we're not cooking tonight. Jerry is heading around the corner and up the street to get us some tacos from the corner stand - tacos pastor! Yum. Sometimes they also have pineapple salsa, which is really excellent.

Thanks, Peeps - me too! I always have lots of things I want to do, and it's frustrating when I don't feel well enough to do them. Tomorrow - grocery store. I'm out of everything. Then, some cooking tomorrow night, for sure.

your gravy made me hungry peeps and I just ate.. you got a recipe for that?

for me clean out fridge night... chicken & cassava in yellow curry over white rice with some sauteed swiss chard on the side. ok but needed some heat

Well I pan fried the chops in cast iron pan with a tiny amount of canola oil. Removed the chops from pan. There wasn't any oil left in the pan so I added about 2 Tbsp. butter to pan, about 6 quarted button mushrooms, a 1/4 of a medium red onion, sea salt and ground pepper. Saute till soft and the mushrooms shrink a bit. Added just enough dry white wine to deglaze all the fond from pan using a wooden spatula to scrape all the bits off pan and cooked till just about all evaported then added 1 pouch dry pork gravy and 1 cup water. Use whisk to break up any lumps. Cook stirring till thick. I was going to do the butter, flour, gravy master and chicken broth to make the pan gravy but when I looked I couldn't find a box of stock/broth.

We had dinner on Thursday. Tri tip, chicken wings, & corn landed on the grill this evening.

Thats some beautiful food!! What did you put on the wings beside sesame seeds? They look soooooooooo good.

Thanks, they were good. I marinated the wings in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, sesame seeds, and cayenne powder. Very simple, Asian style hot wings.

Thank you!!

cool, thanks, interesting, never thought to dress up a package like that the results look great a must try. The mushrooms and color look delish and chops are one of my standbys. I suck at gravy this looks like a good MO.

You're welcome

i want a sampler plate of what peeps, sass, and food are having. :chef:

we took my boy and our neighbor's daughter to the adventure aquarium in camden (near philadelphia) for the day, and we ended up grabbing dinner before the long ride home at red lobster.

what can i say? i was outvoted. after a lot of whining from me, i ended up being pleasently surprised; shocked really, at having a pretty good dinner.

i've always had bad experiences at the only two red lobsters that i've dined at in northern joisey, but this one, in cherry hill, was head and shoulders above other seafood places we've been to recently. red lobster to me has been too much salt, cheap butter, and greasy biscuits and fried food.

nonetheless, we started with a lobster, seafood, and artichoke dip and chips. a little oily, so my expectations were holding true.

salads were, well, salads. drinks were refilled before we had to ask. service was very good so i started to believe.

but then for dinner, my boy had popcorn shrimp and mashed - both very tasty; our little guest had snow crab legs and fries - the legs nicely steamed (hey, she had to be shown how to crack them and a bite escaped ) ; dw had blackened trout and a baked spud - excellent in her opinion; and i had the peppercorn sirloin/grilled shrimp combo with mashed - the meat perfectly cooked medium rare and a tasty char on both the beef and shrimp.

the snow crab was so good that my boy and i shared an extra add-on plate of them before our entrees were finished. they came out super hot and well steamed, not boiled, showing again that the service staff and the kitchen were on the ball.

for dessert, we all shared a warm chocolate chip lava cookie a la mode. it was a 4 way spoon battle to the end. no one blinked, lol.

the whole bill, including several refills each of sodas and iced teas, came to $81, with tax $87. considering the efficiency of our three waiters/buspeople, i left a $17 tip or around 20%.
$104 dollars for a very good dinner, no outrageous portions for leftovers.

since we joined the adventure aquarium as passport members, i'm sure we will be back. in fact, the kids are already planning another trip there when school starts.

Thank you Bucky. I would love to send you some but I rarely make enough to have left overs. 4 people - 4 chops, 1/2 head each cauliflower & broccoli, 4 each tiny baby red & tiny baby yukons mashed. The gravy was less than a cup after chops simmering for 10 minutes in it and was the perfect portion divided 4 ways.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day trip/outing and dinner!!

That sounds awesome Bucky! And Kudos to you for taking the neighbor's kid out for such a wonderful time. I'm sure you made some great memories for her and your son!
