Whats cooking Monday November 16, 2009?

Or as me and now my kids call it "That Again". My grandmother used to make it her way which was great. We called it that again because she made so much of it at one time we got it for lunch a couple of times a week till it was gone. Love the stuff and so do my kids.

You know I have NEVER had a home made version...isn't that sad! I have a recipe here somewhere for one I thought looks good but have yet to try it! But for a canned version we enjoy it, as well as it gets my little one to eat spinach! :D

I'll get my wife to write down my grandmothers recipe since she has it memorized. My grandmother showed her how she made it the first years we were married. That is how my kids came to love it and the name stuck with my my grandmother also. It isn't hard I'm sure and readily available product also.

I already had it on file so will post it now.

I want leftover lasagna

I'm kinda getting hungry again, so hopefully I can scrounge up some chicken wings in the freezer. Seein' as how Mama lives too far away...

Oh that would be wonderful Joe :) :)

It is posted under soups Dee and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. One of about 2 dozen recipes I got my grandmother to actually write down. I don't think she owned a measuring spoon or cup in her life just did it all by sight and out of memory. The woman could cook though.

Pacific storm over us today - it's a chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwich night, lol :)

I roughly chopped up some cabbage and sliced a few baby carrots, then threw it in the wok with some shrimps in sesame oil.
Added some black pepper and soy sauce too.

I used GG's idea with the spaghetti, had that cooked prior then buttered it and added some red pepper flakes and more soy sauce.
So it was shrimp stir fry over peppery buttered spaghetti.
Good stuff.. looked pretty too. :D

I made catfish, onion rings and a salad.......that's all she wrote!

How funny Barb.....I was not even a half hour ago searching for a good onion ring recipe for tomorrow!!! :D :D Great minds think alike!!

Looks pretty darn tasty there lady!

That sounds really good, Sass. I can almost taste it.

Nice, Barb. Great job on the catfish and rings. Due to being batter challenged I've stayed away from any attempts at onion rings. I can't imagine cooking two different breaded things in one meal, but that's me. Looks super.

So I found six wings I seasoned and grilled, then splashed with some butter and garlic, fried some fries and cut some carrots.

Thanks Fred! It's really not that hard once you get the hang of it. lol

Your dinner looks good, nice color on the wings.......is that blue cheese on the carrots?? Yummmm

You betcha, Sass & Barb, Ken's Steak House blue cheese dressing plus Gorgonzola crumbles on the carrots, my favorite.
Ranch on the fries.

The Spicy Salmon was great! My wife said it was a tad bit hot, but since I eat cayenne peppers as snacks, I thought it was just right, LOL!

I posted the recipe here:

Tonight I served it with some zucchini, sauteed with garlic and grape tomatoes in butter. Sublime!
The rice is basic Uncle Ben's Wild Rice, with some carrots, leeks and ginger sauteed into it. I also added 1/2 cup of dried shiitake mushrooms.

Well, I had a fish fry tonight. Between the fish that I caught Saturday, the three that I caught today, and some catfish that I had caught/cleaned/froze over the summer, it was a FEAST! I probably had 10 lbs of fish fillets.

FWIW, the Sand Bass fillets looked a lot like Tilapia fillets, with most of those being a hair smaller than store-bought tilapia. They tasted great. I think I finally got my breading recipe down. 2 c each flour and masa harina, 2 T Old Bay, salt and pepper, sift all of those. I had an egg wash with about 1 1/2 c of milk, 2 eggs, and a sprinkle of more Old Bay.

I used the leftover breading to make some hushpuppies. While the breaded fish tasted great, the hushpuppies were a little overly-seasoned. If I continue to do this, I'll have to add a little more flour and masa to the mix.

Grabbed a thick Porterhouse while I was out that I grilled and shared with my wife. We had fries and green beans on the side.

Crabcake burger, french fries & coleslaw. I defrosted a jumbo crab cake (bought on-line), popped it in the oven with a pat o' butter & some lime juice.
