What is comfort food?

Wart - If we are considering y avitar in light of the words under it than comfort food for a diesel would be high cetane #2 with a good sulpher content, possibly nitrous injection and maybe water injection to go with it.

Chow - Actually it's a 24 valve 6 cylinder.

With all of that out of the way, I have to go to upstate NY tomorrow morning.If I get back Saturday night, I have an idea.
 
To me, comfort food is whatever food brings you comfort (duh) and makes you feel warm, safe and relaxed like....
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy
Meatloaf with roasted potatoes
Clam chowder
Tortellini soup with warm sourdough bread
Lasagne
Chocolate chip cookies :biggrin:
 
Barb - Most of my grandparents stuff is lost to me. My Gramma on Dad's side was a real old time Penna Dutch cook. I would love to have some of her recipes. You are fortunate to have those.

Short story - I was in Phoenix AZ for 6 months and I had my Betty Crocker Dinner for tow cookbook. All there was was just me so I liked the small recipes. My next door neighbors were two young ladies splitting an appartment. They pretty much kept to themselves till one afternoon I was making meat loaf and baked potatoes. They cam banging on the door asking for leftovers. Neither of them could cook.
 
Andy, believe me, I treasure these books! They've got hand written additions in them also from from my grandmother and mother. They're here with me......I'm definitely blessed to have them.

Thats so sweet Barb :) I'm glad you have that.

I have an old Home and Gardens Cook Book that was my mothers that was given to me at age 25 (she died when I was 3) she doesnt have recipes written down but she wrote down reviews of each of the recipes, or most at least, of what she liked, what my dad enjoyed and what they didn't like :) even more special now with my dad's passing.... :)
 
actually I am going to visit mom in the near future and get some of the family secrets so I can do the spanish dishes (Puerto Rican) food.
 
Gramma in Pennsylvania used to make such dynamite food. I only saw them about every two years and I was young when the passed. Big family fight I have nothing from them.
