Well another trip to the ER

Dawn slipped walking out with my son tonight and broker her left wrist. They put a plaster splint on it from her fingers past her elbow. She now has to go back in a week for more X-rays and at that time they will decide if surgery or a full cast will be necessary. This was her first broken bone and she handled it pretty well. Even when they hung 10 lbs of waits to her upper arm with 2 fingers held in the air from a stand. They went on to plaster it up in this position with the only tears coming as he pressed the plaster down. They gave her a percocet on admittance and a shot of morphine before I brought her home. Oh and she is left handed so she won't be doing much for the next 6 to 8 weeks.

Oh no!! That's awful, Joe! Poor Dawn - did they give her some good pain pills? That sounds like it would really, really hurt.

Cuh-Rap! That is awful Joe. Sounds like things are taken care of and ready to mend, so that's good. Damn. Sorry to hear this! Tell her that we are all pulling for her!!!

Thanks guys I will pass it along to her when the morphine fog wares off sometime tomorrow. It did hurt like hell and I've been there myself so have lived it. I tried to warn her but got it can't be worse than child birth, well she said it was worse now that she went through it. She has a multiple fracture of the joint in her wrist so it might require surgery do to the bone fragments. The X-ray looked almost like it was a walnut after it was struck by a hammer.

OUCH! I can almost feel that. Well, now you can pamper her for awhile.

Sorry to hear this Joe. I hope Dawn is feeling better, and the six weeks fly by. In six weeks we'll be just one week away from spring. :thumb: Something for all of us to look forward to.

Thanks guys and I filled her pain pill prescription this morning so she shouldn't be in any pain based on what it is. She about beat me to death last night with her cast. Had to change sides of the bed for my safety.

Thanks Buzz and all of your well wishes have been passed along to her with her saying thanks.

As for the bed not a problem, just got to love the Sleep Number beds just dial in the firmness you want and good to go.

Dawn, I hope that JoeC passes on my wishes for a speedy recovery. I am a lefty, too. So, is Buzz--so we can feel your pain!

Well I guess it is reflex to reach out when slipping with your strongest hand. In her case she is pretty much useless without it. Never mind what the pain pills are doing to her.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dawn, Joe. I hope she has a speedy, painless recovery. Make sure you get her a metal coat hanger that has been bent to form a loop so she can stick it down in the cast and scratch when it gets itchy. I had a cast on my left arm a while back and luckily I had a metal skewer that had a loop on the one end that I used to scratch otherwise I would have been really miserable.

Been there myself Mama only mine was on my left leg. They are removing the cast next Monday at about 4 PM and they will do another series of X-Ray at that time deciding if it is setting properly so at that point they will recast it or if surgery is required (this is doubtful but still possible) then I don't know what they will do. At any rate they did say the cast if re done it will be somewhat smaller than it is now which runs from her upper arm to her fingers. We will see though as she basically shattered the joint in her wrist.
