Judge Crater was last seen August 6, 1930 while boarding a taxi cab in New York, Even stranger than that, his mistress, Sally Lou Ritz, also disappeared a few weeks later and was never seen again either. Although no longer in use, the phrase "to pull a Crater" has become a phrase for a person vanishing without a trace.
