CRAP !!

John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937), founder of Standard Oil, became the world's first billionaire in 1916 thanks to the immense profits of his oil empire. His wealth was so vast that it was equivalent to almost 2% of the US GDP at the time. At his peak, he controlled almost 90% of the oil refining business in the USA. In retirement, Rockefeller devoted much of his fortune to philanthropy, founding institutions such as the University of Chicago and the Rockefeller Foundation, which supported advances in education, health and science. His legacy includes major contributions to medical research and the eradication of diseases such as hookworm in the USA.
