The two-lane bowling alley in the White House was dedicated on April 25, 1947, under President Harry Truman. The people of Truman's home state of Missouri paid for the bowling alley to be built in honor of Truman's sixty-fifth birthday in May. President Truman was the first to use the bowling alley, knocking down seven pins. One of those pins is being kept in the Smithsonian.
