That would be the Prairie Schooners !
Prairie schooners had several benefits for pioneers, including protection from the weather and the ability to carry 2500 pounds of cargo overland. They could easily be pulled by oxen or mules, which could then be utilized as farm animals once the destination was reached. They did not, however, offer a very comfortable ride, having no brakes or springs, and their parts wore out quickly over the rough terrain. Conestoga wagons were much larger and heavier, but less maneuverable; they worked better carrying cargo over short distances.
