If one were to go searching for Kuppfer-Boweicz cells, the best place to look would be the human liver !
de the liver, there lurk some highly-specialized stellate (star-shaped) macrophages known as the Kuppfer-Boweicz cells. These cells occupy the liver sinusoids (tiny blood channels) and hunt there for bacteria, worn-out red blood cells, and fragments of other garbage which they consume and destroy. They work rather like a vacuum cleaner which breaks down whatever it sucks up into its elements. They were discovered by Karl Wilhelm von Kuppfer in 1876.
