Toolbox Grill

they use to sell them at CrackerBarrel...pretty cool

Yeah, that's what DW's Uncle said! He doesn't think they do anymore though. He got his somewhere in Texas. He carries it everywhere with him. He's a truck driver, so he gets quite the use out of it.

you just have to look for them...they are still around in very selective CB's...

i took a look at one of them and they seriously are not even a heavy duty tool box...very easy to make one if so inclined..and no i am not making one, i have another project in the works..:yum:

That is tooo cool! It would be perfect for the beach. How skilled would one have to be to make one out of a heavy duty toolbox, Jeff?

Can't wait to see what it is this time:yum:

Wouldn't it be awesome, Keltin? I'm thinking about all of the fantastic, heavy-duty toolboxes I've seen but passed up because they would be too heavy loaded with tools. But turned into a grill? Perfect. And with the latches, it would be simple to close up and transport. I'm getting really excited here.

it is not that hard at all...

drill some holes in the sides for intake holes...make a danper for the intake holes

get a replacement grill from a hardware store for a gas grill...there are many varieties so you could probable find one and cut it to size.

buy 2 replacement vents for a charcoal bbq and drill 8 holes in the top lid to fit those vents

and finally find something to put on the bottom of the box to raise the charcoal grate a couple of inches of the bottom...something like a piece of expanded steel with some stainless steel nuts and bolts for legs...

Me too! I'm so doing this!!

Oh wow, thank you, Jeff. I really think I could do that. I think I'll stop by Harbor Freight before heading to IKEA tomorrow and find a toolbox for this.

remember you will have to burn the existing paint off of it..especially the inside of it... the outside should be painted with high heat bbq paint or high temp engine enamel...the inside should will be seasoned as well...

OK, my brain is spinning. My best friend and next door neighbor at the coast - the one who caught the back yard on fire last time I was there with a disposable charcoal grill thing - she would love one of these!!! She has a gas grill, but she's famous for making "dirty steaks" using real charcoal. That's what she was making for all of us the night of the fire. This would be a perfect birthday gift for her - or Christmas, depending on how good my first attempts are.

OK - that's good to know. Here's a blonde question - do I burn it off with fire or strip it off with paint remover?

OK, I looked at the link, Jeff. That is a very nice little grill and it's only $34. It's a good suggestion. Maybe I should get that one for my friend and then tie a big pink bow around it!

I was wondering if Harbor Freight was outside of Texas. Isn't that the coolest place? I could spend hours in there. I have an obsession with power tools.
