Not to hijack your thread but since I have you here, have you had any experience with low-flow toilets? We got some free from the city of San Antonio. They work great here, maybe because we have fantastic water pressure. But I've heard a lot of complaints about them not flushing properly. I'm asking because someone gave me one. I was thinking about installing it at the coast, but hesitate because we have the worst water pressure I've ever seen there. I have to run the dishwasher in the middle of the night because if anyone uses any water while it's running, the powder doesn't even dissolve! Would that make a low-flow toilet not work properly?

Right now the best low flow toilets are made by Toto. My customers who have them are pleased with them, but they all have the top of the line. I would suggest Googling for reviews on the make and model of the unit you have before spending the time to install it. By all means, do not throw out the current toilet until you are satisfied with the performance of teh new one.

Water pressure does not affect the performance of the toilet, as they are all designed to flush with the volume of water in the tank. What you may experience with low pressure is additional time required to fill the tank following a flush.

As far as your dishwasher is concerned, once again the pressure only determines the fill time for the unit until the float reaches its fill point. From that point everything is controlled by the unit itself (You may have a problem with the pump). If your water is hard, it will take longer to dissolve the powder than soft water, and if your heating element is not working properly that will also affect it. We have stopped using powder and only use liquid for the dishwasher. Powder has fillers in it that can be abrasive to your dishes until it fully dissolves, especially the cheaper powders. Try liquid, and also try using just half of the recommended amount as well. Most manufacturers tell you to use more detergent than is actually required, especially if you rinse your dishes before putting them in the machine. Personally, I rarely put anything in the machine, as I prefer to hand wash my dishes when I cook. Also, all of my pots & pans are washed before I sit down to eat, so we only have the tableware to wash following a meal. I'm anal like that.
 
The pantry is now done, sans the paint and shelf paper that will be done this weekend, Here are the before & after shots.

Nice work Joe. It all looks fantastic!!!!! You do good work man!!!!! If you are available to be hired out I'm just a few hours south of you......maybe we could work something out. I have a basement finishing project in the planning stages. Hope to drive the first nail in 3 weeks or so.

I like the new layout. You guys had really good vision of how to change it around and make the best use of the space you have. Adding a window and changing plumbing like that seems major to me. Not to mention all the finish work you did that looks fantastic. Very impressive. :tiphat: :D
 
We cleaned out the living room, dining room and kitchen, to organize everything into the new pantry, and we still have an entire shelf empty...for now!:tongue: For now it's all in there, and we may move things around later.

Yes, DW is a happy camper. I started out today to clean up the garage so DW could park her car in the garage again. The sun came out and it got to almost 60F, so I bit the bullet and decided to install the laundry room window. This entailed opening the exterior wall, removing the vinyl siding, go buy some UT & J-Channel to match the 18 year-old siding. install the window, insulate the remaining wall cavity, reinstalling the siding and new trim, and finally, installing the inside window casing and painting it...plus clean the garage for DW. FWIF, this was the last item for this project to be 100% complete on my part.

It is done, and I'm enjoying a much deserved cocktail.
 
OMG! She got a window in the laundry room???? I wanna be Mrs. V! My laundry room is in the basement and is dark and scary. Plus, my pantry is really sad compared to yours. And the tiny little half-bath downstairs has a round toilet!!!! I so wanna be Mrs. V.
