sunday cooking, 10/3/10

Everything looks and sounds wonderful everybody!

We had sausage - fennel soup with lentils and grilled London Broil hoagies topped with peppers, onions and mushrooms. DH decided he wanted sammies instead of salad. :)

Thanks, Peeps! And you're right - I never thought about it before, but that bowl does look like a flying saucer!

Gosh, everybody seems to have put effort into their meals today than I did! Love that curry, mhend's soup and sandwich, PC's kitchen pics, Mama's wings, mac & cheese, Peep's colorful sky and dinner, let's see...did I miss anyone? Hope not! I love looking at your beautiful food, everyone. Thanks for sharing it.

We had pork cutlet sandwiches tonight...pretty good, but not fancy.

Thank you Karen!!

Your meal looks yummy!! I have never made a breaded pork cutlet. I have got to cut some cutlets and try that the next time pork loins go on sale!!

so my roast finally got done... it was worth the wait. Seasoned a rib eye roast w Bell's, black pepper, and celery salt. Got it out of the oven on time for it to be nice and rare but really tender... and best of all my wine gravy came out really good which always makes me happy because it is not something I am a natural at. I feel vindicated after last weeks miserable braised beef incident.

That looks wonderful PH!! Yummy!! I love burgundy gravy on my eye round roast.

That burrito makes my mouth water! And I just ate a piece of Tres Leches cake...the rib roast plate is a thing of beauty, Panch. The gravy is magnificent. Good work.:clap::clap:

Oh great!! I WANT BURRITOS NOW!! LOL

Now I am going to have to buy some of those frozen burritos.

Looks so YUMMY LIFESAVER!!

we went pumpkin picking today, so afterwards we went out to a great little cafe in an converted train station in westwood, nj called "the iron horse": http://www.theironhorse.com/

i've been going to this place for years, since i was a teenager. my church's theater group used to put on a "living stations of the cross" in the park across the street every good friday, and i was picked to play jesus (since i had long brown hair and blue eyes. you know, like most nazarenes, lol).

i would be crucified on a real 10 foot cross while freezing my butt off. it was early spring, afterall, and all i had on was a loincloth. then i'd be taken down and wrapped in white blankets and had to lay there until several hundred people passed by and said prayers.
i have to say, it was a pretty east gig. well, after the first act (playing a dead guy).

ok, back to food: the menu there hasn't changed since it opened in the 70's, and thinking about it i've never had a bad meal there, or bad service. they have great soups, especially baked onion soup, and pea soup, and everything is a reasonable portion at a reasonable price.

we started with the nachos supreme, topped with taco meat. then we had baked oinion soups. finally, dw had the asian chicken salad, my boy had the slider trio and sweet potato fries, and i had the chatanooga chicken sandwich with railroad tie fries.

this is one of my all time favourite sandwiches. it's a toasted hero roll with a large, grilled chicken breast, topped with canadian bacon, bbq sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. the next time you're looking for a new sandwich, try this combo; you'll thank me. :thumb:

and the railroad tie fries are amazing at the iron horse. big, thick, salty steak fries that are both crispy and leathery at the same time. i don't know how they make them so good.

it must be some kind of miracle.

Absolutely great work, everyone!!! After cooking I completely forgot about the camera:oops:. Beautiful plates, all of you!
